Setting up the electrode
CAuTION!
Unintentional starting up of the welding tongs!
Crushing of hands and fingers.
X Switch off the Orbital welding power source.
1. Open the electrode clamping screw (1) and remove the clamping sleeve.
NOTE!
Before inserting the electrode, check that it has the correct length and the sharpness. Rework,
if necessary.
2. Insert the electrode (5) into the clamping sleeve (4). Insert the electrode with clamping sleeve into the torch body (2). Fasten
the clamping screw (1) again.
If required, adjust the electrode projection out of the gas nozzle.

2
X To remove the electrode carry out the process steps in the reverse order.
8.5
Setting up the torch: TP Standard/KD
CAuTION!
Unintentional starting up of the welding tongs!
Crushing of hands and fingers.
X Switch off the Orbital welding power source.
NOTE!
Check the gas nozzle and lens regularly for soiling, such as by foreign material, clean and, if
required, replace ("Replacing the gas nozzle or lens", see chap. 10.3, p. 106).
NOTE!
Before setting up the torch, ensure that the ground cable is connected.
NOTE!
Spring-loaded torch articulated arm!
Damage to the electrode through uncontrolled torch arm lowering.
X The torch arm must be lowered manually.
X Ensure that the torch fixation is locked.

1. Use the adjusting screw (2) to move the feeler wheel (1) completely out or downward.
2. Pull out the torch locking lever (5) at the torch articulated arm (4) thus releasing it. In the process hold the torch articulated
arm at the torch body (3) and lower it slowly and in a controlled manner until the feeler wheel (1) contacts the workpiece.
1
2
3. Set the electrode gap by means of the adjusting screw (2) at the feeler wheel to the desired gap by means of a feeler gauge.
4. Check the 90° angle of the electrode to the workpiece: Is the electrode setting to the workpiece joint correct (=centered)?
If required, open the clamping screw (6) at the torch articulated arm using a hex key, adjust to 90°, and tighten again.
6
5. If required, correct with the axial torch adjustment (7).
If this is insufficient, the welding tongs
have to be offset slightly and clamped again.
