prevent the stem from pinching the bar and chain. Be
careful that the chain does not cut the soil under the
trunk when cutting. This could cause the chain to dull
quickly. When cutting a log on a slope, always stand
over the log.
A log or log supported along its entire length:
Cut from above. Be careful not to cut the soil as well
(Fig. 12A).
A log supported at one end:
First, cut from the bottom to 1/3 of the diameter of the
log. This will prevent splitting. Then cut the log from
the top to meet the bottom cut, prevent splitting. (Fig.
1 2B).
Log supported at both ends:
First, cut from the top to 1/3 of the diameter of the
log. This will prevent splitting. Then, from the bottom,
complete the cut by meeting the top cut (Fig. 12C).
NOTE: The best way to support the log while cutting
is to use a trestle. If a trestle is not available, the log
can be supported and lifted using stumps or using
support logs. Make sure that the log you are about to
cut is securely supported.
Cutting on a trestle
For personal safety and ease of cutting, the correct
position for perpendicular cutting is as follows (Fig.
13).
A. When cutting, hold the saw firmly with both hands
in a position to the right of the body.
B. Keep your left arm as straight as possible.
C. Maintain balance while doing so.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Repair and maintenance work that is not listed in
this chapter, as well as the overall service of the
chainsaw, may only be performed by a professional
service.
Preventive maintenance
Good preventive maintenance, regular inspection
and proper handling will increase the service life,
safety and performance of your ASIST chainsaw. This
maintenance checklist is a guide to such an activity.
Under certain circumstances, there may be a need to
clean, adjust and replace parts more frequently than
described here.

Air filter (fig. 14)
! WARNING: Never operate the saw without an air
filter. Dust and dirt that gets sucked into the engine
will damage it. Keep the air filter clean!
Check the air filter regularly. Clean it regularly or
replace it.
Remove the top cover (A) by loosening the top cover
screw. Remove the filter cover.
Remove the air filter (B) from the air box (C).
Clean the filter by washing it in clean, warm, soapy
water. Then rinse it with clean, cold water and dry it
completely. We recommend having the filter loaded
in stock.
Put the air filter back in place, install the filter cover.
Make sure the cover is perfectly seated in place.
Tighten the screw.
