Working behaviour and working technique

3. Wait until the cutting tool has come to a com-
plete standstill.
6.3

Using the quick release mechanism (17)

1. Pull the orange strap (17/1) vigorously (17/a).
The device slips out of the holder together with
the snap hook (17/2) and falls to the ground.
7 WORKING BEHAVIOUR AND
WORKING TECHNIQUE
7.1

Working with spool head

7.1.1

Trimming

Angle the machine slightly forwards and
move it from left to right at an appropriate
and even speed.
The best cutting results are achieved when
cutting dry grass.
Do not move the cutting line directly along
walls and stone slabs, since this will cause
the cutting line to wear too quickly.
Cut long grass and relatively dense vegeta-
tion in several passes to prevent the spool
from blocking.
Adapt the engine speed and the depth of cut
to the working conditions. If the engine in not
running fast enough, it is possible for under-
growth to get snagged or caught in the cut-
ting tool.
If grass, branches or other objects get caught
in the cutting tool or the machine vibrates un-
usually, switch the engine off immediately
and check the machine.
A blocked angle-drive gearbox can cause
damage to the clutch.
The cutting line continues to turn after the
trimmer attachment has been switched off.
Consequently, wait until the line has stopped
before you switch the machine back on
again.
Change the cutting line when the spool is
empty.
7.1.2
Prolonging the cutting line during
operation (13)
The cutting line shortens during operation and
frays out.
1. Allow the engine to run at full speed.
2. Tap (13/a) the spool head (13/1) on the
ground from time to time. This unwinds a
piece of new cutting line from the spool and

cuts off the used end of the cutting line
(13/2).
7.2

Working with blade

7.2.1

Avoiding kickback

Make sure you have a secure footing. Keep
your feet apart at a comfortable distance, and
always be prepared for the possibility of kick-
back.
Before starting cutting, allow the blade to
reach its full working speed.
7.2.2

Mowing

Angle the appliance slightly forwards and
move it from left to right at an appropriate
and even speed. The cut material then drops
onto the area already cut.
Cut longer grass and denser vegetation in
several passes. First shorten the upper part
of the material to be cut by moving the appli-
ance to the right. Then move the appliance to
the left and cut the lower part.
Cut in strips when working on slopes. Mow
one strip parallel to the slope, then walk back
along the mown area and mow the next strip.
Adapt the engine speed and the depth of cut
to the working conditions. If the engine speed
is too low, undergrowth can catch up or jam
in the cutting tool.
If grass, branches or other objects get caught
in the cutting tool or the appliance vibrates
unusually, switch the engine off immediately
and check the appliance.
A blocked angle-drive gearbox can cause
damage to the clutch.
Never remove trapped cut material when the
blade is still running. Wait until the blade has
come to a standstill.
If the blade is blunt, broken or bent, replace it
with a genuine spare part.
