INSTALLATION
;
Installation of the DBI-SALA Single Point Anchor must be performed or supervised by a Competent Person
3.1
PLANNING: Plan your fall protection system prior to installation of the Single Point Anchor. Account for all factors that
may affect your safety before, during, and after a fall. Consider all requirements, limitations and specifications defined
in Section 2 and Table 1. When the Single Point Anchor is installed by a third party (not the user), the installer shall
prepare and provide a documentation package which includes this instruction and design details which prove that the
requirements of these instructions have been met.
3.2
DIRECTION OF LOADING: Figure 7 shows correct loading directions for the Single Point Anchor. Loads should always
be applied in directions parallel to the anchor surface. The Single Point Anchor is designed for use with systems that limit
applied arrest loads to the values listed in Section 2.2. Static loads must not exceed 272 kg (600 lbs). Only one person
may be attached to the Single Point Anchor at a time.
;
Model 7234109 is rated for simultaneous connection of one user plus one rescuer per EN 795.
3.3
FALL FACTORS: The Single Point Anchor can be used in all Fall Factor situations: 0, 1, or 2.
3.4
INSTALLING THE SINGLE POINT ANCHOR: Figure 8 illustrates installation of the Single Point Anchor. The
Single Point Anchor may be installed in solid metal (A), onto a metal I-beam (B), or in cured concrete (C). To install the
Single Point Anchor:
A.
INSTALLATION IN SOLID METAL (BLIND FIX):
1.
Drill and prepare hole into the structure per the selected fastener size and thread. M12 or M16 size, A2-70 or A4-
70 class fastener required.
2.
Fasten the Single Point Anchor within the prepared hole. Apply Loctite 243 (or equivalent thread lock) to threads
to prevent unintentional loosening due to environmental conditions.
3.
Torque fastener to 50 Nm (37 ft-lb) for M12 or 140 Nm (103 ft-lb) for M16.
B.
INSTALLATION ON I-BEAM (THROUGH-FIX):
1.
Drill and prepare hole into the structure per the selected fastener size. M12 or M16 size, A2-70 or A4-70 class
fastener required.
2.
Fasten the Single Point Anchor within the prepared hole. Use of a locking nut and washer are required. Apply
Loctite 243 (or equivalent thread lock) to threads to prevent unintentional loosening due to environmental
conditions.
3.
Torque fastener to 50 Nm (37 ft-lb) for M12 or 140 Nm (103 ft-lb) for M16.
C.
INSTALLATION IN CONCRETE (CONCRETE FIX):
1.
Drill and prepare hole into the structure per selected concrete fastener manufacturer's instructions. An M16
adhesive anchoring system (Hilti HIT-HY 150 or equivalent) required.
2.
Fasten the Single Point Anchor within the prepared hole per the selected concrete fastener manufacturer's
instructions.
3.
Torque fastener per the selected concrete fastener manufacturer's instructions.
3.5
RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: Where possible, installations should be designed as a Fall Restraint application (see Figure 9D).
Fall Restraint systems prevent the user from reaching a position where a fall can occur; therefore, no free-fall is possible.
See Section 3.2 for directions of loading when attaching to the Single Point Anchor.
3.6
FALL ARREST SYSTEMS: When the Single Point Anchor is used in a Fall Arrest system, the device should be mounted as
high above the user as possible. This minimizes possible free fall, making rescue easier and less distressing on the victim.
Avoid anchor locations that increase the chance of swing fall. Swing falls occur when the anchorage point is not directly
above the point where a fall occurs. The force of striking an object in a swing fall may cause serious injury or death.
Minimize swing falls by working as close to the anchorage point as possible. See Section 3.2 for directions of loading when
attaching to the Single Point Anchor.
3.7
PROOF LOAD TESTING: After installation, the Single Point Anchor must be proof loaded. Using a tension tester, apply a
5 kN (1,125 lb) load for at least 15 seconds in a direction perpendicular to the mating surface. There should be no pullout
of fixing or deformation of the anchor eye.
;
Proof loading is not required for through-hole installations in steel structures, unless required by the purchaser.
Each Single Point Anchor must sustain the 5 kN (1,125 lb) proof load without showing any deformation, permanent
yield, or slip of the fastener. Any of these occurrences constitutes a failure. Any failure indicates that the type of fastener
tested is not suitable for use in the building material tested and must be rejected. The fastener manufacturer should be
consulted for recommendation of a suitable fastener for the base material.
In the event of a failure, a suitable fastener must be acquired and re-tested. Any rejected anchors must be discarded
and their mounting holes plugged to prevent subsequent use. After testing the structural material should be carefully
examined for cracking, or other signs of failure. This is essential where an anchor is close to the edge of the structural
material. For anchors near the edge of a structure, suitability of the intended fastener should be verified with the fastener
manufacturer.
1 Competent Person:
One who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary,
hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
