Replacement of Motor Brushes
Tools needed: Flat Head Screwdriver, Phillips Head Screwdriver
To remove the motor brush, you must first slide out the contact pin from the brush. DO
NOT PRESS DOWNWARD on the pin OR USE EXCESSIVE FORCE as this may break the
connecting pin.
Using the flat head screwdriver, gently wedge it between the
center of the motor brush and the connecting pin. Turn the
screwdriver counter-clockwise so the connecting pin slides
away from you, towards the center of the motor. The pin
may not slide completely out of the brush at this time. DO
NOT press on the end of the pin extending slightly out from
the brush. The screwdriver should be in the center of the
motor brush.
Note: Little force is needed to slide the connecting pin out of
the motor brush. Over time, some carbon may build up on
this contact requiring slightly more effort than a new brush.
Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the motor
brush hold-down bracket. Once both screws are
removed, gently tip the end of the brush nearest you
upward with one hand and gently slide the connect-
ing pin the rest of the way out of the brush.
Reverse the above steps to place new motor brushes into place. Place the brush close to its
final resting position and gently insert the connecting pin into the brush. It may not insert all
the way at this time. Attach the motor brush hold-down bracket with the original two screws
removed earlier, tightening completely. If the connecting pin is not inserted all the way into
the brush, take the flat head screwdriver and place it on the side of the pin closest to the center
of the motor and gently pull toward you to slide the pin into the motor brush. Very little force
is needed.
*New carbon brushes will give off small sparks briefly once the motor is engaged while the brushes finish aligning
properly. This is normal.
