US Information for use
Please read these instructions carefully and keep for
future use.
The sera fil 60/120 motor filters are highly efficient
internal aquarium filters for small aquariums up to
60/120 liters (16/32 US gal.). The quiet motor saves
energy and requires almost no maintenance. The very
large filter material volume [approx. 200/350 cm
(approx. 12.2/21.4 cu.in.)] ensures optimal aquarium
water filtration and best possible biological clarifica-
tion, providing you with crystal clear, natural aquarium
water.
Water purification in several steps:
1. Coarse dirt particles are mechanically filtered from
the water by the filter foam (2) in the front cartridge
(1).
2. The active filter carbon sera super carbon (5) in the
filter cartridge (3) absorbs toxic organic pollutants
such as pesticides.
3. The third filter cartridge (3) of the sera fil 120 con-
®
tains sera siporax
mini. In this phase, biological pol-
lutant breakdown takes place on the huge internal
surface of sera siporax
teria settle.
These cartridges can be added to the sera fil 60, and
can be installed as often as you like to the sera fil
120. This modular addition creates additional filter
volume and, accordingly, increased filter capacity.
Different water outlets allow individual adjustment to
every aquarium:

outlet units in different sizes.

tanks.

ed with extra wide outlet with diffuser.
Assembly and installation in the aquarium:
The internal filter can be installed in your aquarium in
various positions (Fig. 1 to 4).
Please note that the filter must be completely sub-
merged in water as to prevent it from running dry.
Screw the curve connector (14) with the O-ring (13)
into the main body (12) before installing the filter in-
side the aquarium. Then push on the curve pipe (16).
The pipe connectors (15) allow to adjust the height of
the spray bar (17). Put the stopper (18) on the end of
the spray bar.
Attach the complete filter to an aquarium pane of your
choice after you have assembled these parts.
Clean the spot where the filter is to be attached
thoroughly, but do not use any detergents. You can
simply press the internal filter to the aquarium glass by
means of the suction cups and attach it this way.
Now use the suction cups (19) and the corresponding
clips to attach the spray bar (17) below the water sur-
face in a way that the outlet nozzles of the spray bar
are slightly directed upwards to the water surface. This

mini on which the filter bac-
will create a desired surface current which is very
important for the oxygen supply of your fish.
The schematic figures show the single parts that you
require for the assembly.
These parts can easily be pushed together without
exerting force and without using tools.

Connect the filter to the mains supply only after it is
installed and the filter body is entirely submerged!
Cleaning and maintenance:
(Please read this section completely before every
maintenance measure.)
The filter is clogged, or its bacterial activity may be too
high if filter performance or pH value decrease consid-
erably. Pull the mains plugs of all electrical devices
connected in or at the aquarium!
Only then you may take the filter out of the aquarium.
Simply pull the filter cartridges (1, 3) off the cartridge
connector (8 or 9, respectively) for cleaning the filter
foam (2) or replacing the activated carbon (5).
You can now clean the filter media (2, 5, 7) or replace
them with new ones. We recommend to always replace
only a part of the filter media as to preserve a part of
the filter bacteria.
During regular maintenance, the running unit with the
rotor (11) must also be cleaned and checked for wear
and tear. Carefully pull out the impeller (11), using a
pair of tweezers. (Make sure not to lose the small black
shaft locators located at the shaft tip or inside the
impeller cover!) Clean the parts with a soft brush and
rinse the impeller chamber and the canal attached at
the side.
Now reassemble all parts. The filter should not be out
of operation for more than 30 minutes at the maxi-
mum, as to prevent the remaining useful purification
bacteria inside the filter from dying. We recommend to
refresh the bacteria cultures by using sera filter bio-
start and sera nitrivec biostarter after every filter
cleansing. This is urgently recommend if the filter was
out of operation for more than 30 minutes.
Please do not use any detergents!
The filter media should be washed out after approx.
4 weeks as to ensure optimal water filtration. The filter
foam (item no. 06855) should not be used longer than
6 months before it is replaced. Rinse the new filter
media with aquarium water before use as to allow the
required bacteria cultures to build up again. Please
note that the activated filter carbon (item no. 06854)
must be replaced after every water change, but at the
latest after 6 weeks.

Used sera siporax
placed when the inner pores cannot be cleansed any
more, thus not allowing for any water flow.
