Technical description

The Dräger FPS-COM 7000 is a communication unit for full face
masks in the Dräger FPS 7000 series with P, RA and PE/ESA
connections. The communication unit is equipped with a microphone
and an earphone to allow wireless connection. A second earphone can
be fitted as an option.
The communication unit shuts down automatically if no activity is
recorded. The automatic shut-down function can be interrupted (see
Chap. 3.4.2 on Page 29).
An optional configuration software is available for changing the
parameters of the communication unit.
2.2.2
Functional principle of the "voice amplifier unit"
The voice amplifier unit loudspeaker simplifies communication with
other persons in the immediate vicinity because a speaker's voice is
transmitted directly and any distortion caused by the mask body is
minimized.
The voice amplifier unit loudspeaker can be switched off if it is not
required (see Chapter 3.1.6 on Page 26). The wireless connection
remains active however. For example, we recommend switching off
24
the voice amplifier unit loudspeaker during operation in a chemical
protective suit. If no voice amplification occurs, the communication unit
is in HazMat mode.
2.2.3
The functional principle of "team radio"
Several communication units are able to communicate in a group by
radio at a specific frequency range. This function transmits a speaker's
voice to all communication units in a group via radio. Groups can
consist of up to 10 members, of which two persons can speak at the
same time. The other group members are able to listen to the
conversation.
Each communication unit allows up to 10 different groups to be stored.
Of this number up to 7 groups can work in parallel within a single
frequency range. The radius in which the maximum number of groups
is possible depends heavily on the environment (see Page 4, Fig. B
and C).
Each communication unit is assigned to a specific group. When the
communication unit is switched on, it automatically searches for other
communication units belonging to the same group. The user can
manually set a different group if necessary.
2.2.4
The functional principle of "tactical radio"
As the built-in microphone improves voice clarity, clear communication
with a tactical radio is possible. The communication unit features an
integrated push-to-talk button that makes it easy to send radio
messages.
A tactical radio can be connected via a cable or a Bluetooth connection
to the communication unit. By pressing the push-to-talk button, a radio
message can be sent via the tactical radio (e.g. to operation
command). The communication unit filters out interference and
transmits the speaker's voice to the tactical radio. The quality of the
radio transmission can be influenced by the radio used.
Using the configuration software it is possible to set that radio
messages sent by operation command are automatically forwarded to
