SCREW AIR COMPRESSOR
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
PROBLEM
Compressor doesn't start.
Note:
The Electronic Interface
has been programmed to
detect possible failures -
SRP 3040E.
(see the Electronic
Interface instruction).
The compressor may be
off due to the action of the
pressure switch and it will
re-start automatically.
(If this is the cause, light
item
10
, Figure 12, page 47,
must be on showing
that pressure is high and
the pressure switch does
not release the re-switching).
Compressor starts
but turns off
immediately.
Intermittent noise at start.
Contactors do not seem
to activate.
58
PROBABLE CAUSE
Lack of phase or electric power.
Lack of control voltage.
Remote mode (SRP 3040E).
Emergency button pressed.
Compressing unit's motor
overload relay is not set.
Over temperature - SRP 3040E.
Thermostat was activaded - SRP 3040.
Contactors' coil is burnt.
Other causes:
Loose or broken wires.
Thermic sensor's transformer burnt.
Overload relay tripped. In the SRP 3040
the indicator light (item
11
page 47) is on (Read in the Electronic
Interface - SRP 3040E).
Wire gauge inadequate.
Lack of phase.
(fuse blown)
Motor input cables are loose at
contactors connections.
Defective overload relays or worn
out contacts.
Lack of oil.
Temperature rises quickly.
Air/oil separator element clogged.
Voltage drop/wire gauge
inadequate.
Check installation and protection fuses.
Check control circuit fuses.
If there's tension in the control light (item
and
8)
, Figures 11 and 12, page 46 and 47
(if perfect) must light up.
Add one jump between terminal 5 and 6
block X2.
Unlock the button and press reset key in the
Electronic Interface
Reset and check tripping cause by
re-starting compressor.
Wait until ideal operating temperature
is achieved.
Wait for 5 (five) minutes until voltage
returns to control and indicator light
(item , Figure 12, page 47) and switches on.
8
Check the thermostat.
Check contactors' coils.
Check the affected components and following
the wiring diagram, find the loose connection
or break.
Change transformer.
Identify cause, eliminate it and check relay's
, Figure 12,
setting (s).
Check amp draw and lag between phases.
Check code and reinstall cables if necessary.
Check fuses and replace if necessary.
Find out why fuse burned.
Check condition of cables and of insulations
and re-fasten them if necessary.
Check K1, K2 and K3 contactors' contacts.
If normal, verify relay.
Check oil level and fill in using (see Table 3,
page 53) compressor oil.
Change air/oil separator element and the oil.
Check code and reinstall cables
if necessary.
Check for voltage drop during start-up,
reevaluate cable sizing.
