11. PRODUCT LIFETIME
It is recommended that you replace your product within 5
years from date of manufacture. The lifetime of the product
will be highly dependent on the environment in which the
product is stored, used, serviced, and maintained. The user
must regularly inspect the product to determine when it has
reached its end of life. Examples that the product may have
reached its end of life are:
• Visible defects such as cracks, deformations, loose or
missing parts.
• Experience of a deterioration in the hearing protector's
attenuation performance, strange noise or abnormal high
sound volumes from the product's electronic sound
reproduction.
NOTE: Product lifetime does not include batteries.
12. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Carry out a visual battery condition check. Replace if battery
leakage or defects are detected.
12.1. TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN THE HEADSET
• Carry out a visual battery condition check. Replace if
battery leakage or defects are detected.
• Use a cloth wetted with soap and warm water to clean the
outer shells, headband and ear cushions.
• If the headset gets wet from rain or sweat, remove the ear
cushions and foam liners, and allow to dry before
reassembly. Refer to "1.1. Intended Use".
NOTE: This headset is designed to withstand brief, shallow
water immersion, including saltwater. Following water
exposure and immersion, the headset should be dried using
the instructions listed above.

Suggestions
Replace the batteries.
Make sure that the batteries are placed correctly in the
battery compartment of the ComTac™ VIII Headset.
Make sure that the battery cover is fully closed.
Make sure the headset is powered on.
Increase the volume setting to the level that maximizes
hearing.
For transmit issues, check the positioning of the boom
microphone.
Make sure that the radio is on. Ensure radio volume is
turned up to an audible level.
Make sure that all cables are connected securely and to
the correct port on the adapter or radio.
Try change the microphone sensitivity setting to suit the
external device.
Once dry, the user should perform a visual inspection and
perform a functions test. If the visual inspection reveals salt
crystal formation, the headset should be quickly rinsed with
fresh water and allowed to dry.
• Examine the ear cushions and foam liners regularly for
damage. Ensure there are no cuts or tears and that the
foam or gel cushions respond when compressed. After
long use or improper storage, the ear cushions may
become compressed and will no longer form a seal around
the ear. A damaged ear cushion or foam liner must be
replaced. Refer to "13. Spare parts and Accessories".
• Replace the foam liners and ear cushions a minimum of
twice a year and as needed.
NOTE: The environmental microphone windscreen serves a
critical function in reducing wind noise that can interfere with
environmental microphone performance.
• Replace environmental/ambient microphone windscreens
when torn or missing.
