The Blocstop™ type BSA fall arrest device (fig.1)
is formed by a zinc-plated steel housing (item 1,
fig. 1) and a zinc-plated steel lever (item 2, fig. 1)
with a zinc-plated steel detection roller (item 4,
fig. 1) mounted at its end. The fall arrest device is
rigidly mounted on the suspended platform by 2
screws + self-locking nuts mounted beforehand
in the holes (item 7, fig. 1). The lever (item 2, fig.
1) is rotated to open and close the jaws.
The fall arrest device operates automatically,
and depends only on the distance f (see fig.1)
between the lifting wire rope (item 6, fig. 1) used
to lift the suspended platform and the safety wire
rope (item 5, fig. 1) which runs through the unit
(item 1, fig. 1).
Operation is as follows:
– when the lifting wire rope (item 6, fig. 1) is
tensioned, the lever (item 2, fig. 1) keeps the
jaws opened and the safety wire rope (item 5,
fig. 1) slides freely in the unit (fig.7),
– when the lifting wire rope (item 6, fig. 1) is slack,
the lever (item 2, fig. 6), pushed by its return
spring in the housing (item 1, fig. 6) swivels,
causing the jaws to clamp on the safety wire
rope (item 5, fig. 1). The suspended platform is
immediately stopped on the side on which the
fall arrest device is installed.

Table 1
Actuation of the lever (item 2, fig. 1) can be
caused by:
a) rupture of the lifting wire rope (fig.8),
b) failure of the lifting hoist,
c) loss of tension on the lifting wire rope caused
by blockage or snagging when the suspended
platform (fig. 8) is coming down,
d) a lateral inclination greater than 14° with
respect to the horizontal (on suspended
platforms with hoist on each end) (fig. 9).
The zinc-plated steel wire rope guide (item 3, fig.
1) ensures that the lifting wire rope (item 6) is
always in contact with the roller (item 4, fig. 1).
IMPORTANT: Each fall arrest device is
factory-adjusted (position of lever (item 2, fig. 1)
with respect to housing (item 1, fig. 1)) by means
of a screw and a locknut. It is prohibited to
change the adjustment of the lever with respect
to the housing.
DANGER: Any change to this adjustment
will automatically release Tractel of any liability.
3. Composition of a standard
supply
Each Blocstop™ fall arrest device is supplied
with this manual and an incorporation statement.
These documents are contained in a plastic bag
fastened to the unit.
