11.3 Positioning inductor on workpiece
Fixed inductors and cage inductors
Place the inductor into or around the workpiece. If the inductor
is equipped with a clamp construction, position this behind the
workpiece. Then place the temperature sensor on the workpiece
where the heat is applied (near the inductor).
Flexible inductors
Flexible inductors are made of a special cable that allows the user
to make an inductor themselves by laying windings "on" a metal
workpiece. Flexible inductors are available in several capacities
(10, 22 and 44kW), lengths (15, 20, 25 and 30m) and temperature
grades (180°C and 300°C). Flexible inductors are meant to be used
with Schaeffler Middle frequent generators. Make sure the capacity
of the inductor corresponds with the capacity of the generator.
Flexible inductors are used to wrap a number of windings around
a workpiece, inside a workpiece (bore) or on a workpiece (as a flat
coil on a surface.
Inductor around a workpiece.

Inductor inside a workpiece.
Inductor flat on a workpiece.
The number of windings/turns depends on the size, shape and
material of the workpiece.
A workpiece large in diameter generally needs less turns than a
workpiece with smaller diameter.
To determine if the number of windings is optimal, we advise to
start somewhere between 5 – 8 turns.
Magnetic holders can be used as aids to keep the windings in
place during the heating process.
