SAFETY INFORMATIONS

Keep children and other persons away from the working area.
Do not allow children to play with this tool or its packaging.
Do not use the tool if parts are missing or damaged.
Use the tool for the intended purpose only.
Always wear safety goggles and work gloves when working with this tool.
Be careful when working on running engines. Loose clothing, tools and other objects can be caught
by rotating parts and cause serious injury.
Be careful when working on hot engines because of the risk of burn injuries!
These instructions do not replace the service literature. You may find additional information in
service literature, e.g. required starting speed and other important information. For all tests vehicle-
specific data should be present, without this data a adequate results cannot insured.

TEST PROCEDURE

1. Warm the engine to operating temperature, check the status of the battery and check the start speed.
The speed of starting is very important for the compression test!
2. Stop the engine and remove fuses or relays of the preheating system.
3. Remove all the glow plugs or injectors (nozzle) from the cylinder head, and store in the order in which
you removed them. This can be helpful for further diagnosis.
4. Clean the threads with e.g. compressed air.
5. Insert the appropriate adapter, tighten it and connect the adapter to the pressure gauge.
6. Now start the engine for about 4 seconds until the pressure on the tester no longer rises. Note the
maximum value and repeat the step 5 to 7 on all remaining cylinders.

TEST RESULT

For intact cylinders the pressure increases rapidly at the beginning of test up to a maximum value.
Check all cylinders to manufacturer's instructions, the difference between them may be up to 10%.
If one cylinder has no pressure, check the piston for damage and make a visual inspection of
injection nozzles. At high combustion temperatures, for example uncontrolled combustion can
lead to damage of the piston (formation of holes, cracks, etc.)
If the value is less on two adjacent cylinders than the value of the other cylinders, there is a
defective cylinder head gasket in the transition zone between those two cylinders. This is also true
if there is water and / or oil on the glow plugs.
If there is a lower reading on a cylinder as indicated by the manufacturer, drop a little engine oil
into the cylinder and run the compression test again. If pressure rises sharply, the piston rings are
worn. If the pressure remains the same low level, the defect is due to a leaky valve or a defective
camshaft.
If the pressure indicated on all cylinders is less than stated by the manufacturer, the motor has
age-related wear and for more diagnose the engine must be disassembled and measured.
Install all the glow plugs or injectors (nozzle) in correct order and connect the fuses and relays
again.
