MAINTENANCE
REPLACING OR SHARPENING THE BLADE
See Figures 6 - 9
WARNING:
Always protect hands by wearing heavy gloves and/or
wrapping the cutting edges of the blade with rags and
other material when performing blade maintenance. Con-
tact with the blade could result in serious personal injury.
 Remove the battery pack.
 Place the product on a level surface with it standing on
its base.
 Raise the tab on the blade change knob.
 Turn the blade change knob counterclockwise to loosen
and remove.
NOTE: The blade change knob is spring loaded. Be sure
to hold it firmly while loosening it.
 Once removed, press on the spring to release and remove
the blade bolt.
 Hold the cutting blade with one hand as you remove the
alignment pin with the other.
 Remove the cutting blade.
To sharpen or replace the cutting blade:
 To sharpen the blade, rub a 300 – 400 grit sharpening
stone across the edges of the cutting blade and the fixed
blade.
 If replacing the blade, remove and discard the old blade.
 Place the sharpened or new blade back into the unit in
the open position.
 Hold the blade in place with one hand as you insert the
alignment pin with the other.
NOTE: Be sure the alignment pin inserts completely into
the cutting blade and there is no gap.
 Insert the blade bolt through the alignment pin and blade.
Rotate the bolt slightly to be sure the flat sides align cor-
rectly to the oblong hole of the blade.
 Holding the blade bolt in position, press the blade change
knob against the spring and push in as you turn it clock-
wise. Make sure not to cross-thread the bolt.
 Finger tighten the blade bolt until you feel resistance. Do
not overtighten.
 Once finger tight, lower the tab on the blade change knob.
The three locking pins on the tab should align and the tab
should lay flat in the locked position. If necessary, back
off or tighten slightly by rotating the flattened tab until the
three pins fall securely into place.
