21 Cleaning

► Clean the oil outlet duct (1), oil inlet bore (2) and groove
(3) with a brush, a slightly dampened cloth or resin
solvent, such as STIHL Resin Remover & Lubricant. Do
not use detergents.
► Clean the chain with a brush, a slightly dampened cloth or
resin solvent. Do not use detergents.
► Do not use a pressure washer to clean the guide bar or
chain or otherwise spray them with water or other liquids.
21.3 Cleaning the Air Filter
To clean the air filter:
► Shut off the engine, @ 15.
► Engage the chain brake, @ 12.1.

► Open the shroud locks (1) by turning them 1/4 turn
counter-clockwise with the combination wrench.
► Remove the shroud (2).

► Clean the area around the air filter (3) with a damp cloth
or soft brush.

► Rotate the air filter a 1/4 turn counter-clockwise by hand.
► Remove the air filter.
► Knock out dust and debris from the filter.
► If the air filter is damaged, replace it.
► Spray the outside of the air filter with warm soapy water.
► Rinse the filter from the inside out under warm running

water. Never use a pressure washer to clean the air filter.
► Allow the air filter to air dry.
► After the air filter (3) has dried thoroughly, push it into
place by hand and rotate it clockwise until it engages in
position.
The "STIHL" logo should be horizontal.
► Place the shroud in position.

► Tighten the shroud locks until you hear an audible click.
NOTICE
Do not use tools to remove and install the air filter. The air
filter may be damaged in the process.
NOTICE
Exposure to high temperatures and oil can damage the air
filter and reduce filtering efficiency. Allow the air filter to air
dry away from external heat sources. Keep the air filter away
from oil.
