Read through the instructions before you begin to work.
Check that all parts are included in the package.
Items in illustrations in the instructions may differ from
the model being worked on. The illustrations are used
for different instructions and may therefore vary between
engine models. The essential information is correct.
This kit contains:
Designation
Fuel hose
Wiring harness
Wiring harness
ECU*)
Installation instructions
*) ECU unit is installed on the engine
The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is the central part of
the EMS (Engine Management unit). The ECU requires
continuous information from the accelerator pedal and a
number of sensors on the engine to control the injection
timing and the amount of fuel injected.
NOTE! All cable connections for the engine sensors have
DIN stanadard connectors.
Prerequisits
1. Remove the ECU unit from the engine and put it aside.
Keep the 4 screws, M8 for later use.
2. Remove the fuel hose (A) and the fuel hose (B), refer
to Fig 1.
3. Remove the wiring harnesses (C) and (D), refer to
Fig 1.
Installation of the ECU unit in an alternative location
Technical requirements / Installation
The ECU is equipped with an internal atmospheric
sensor (1) and must not be installed in areas where
there is pressure. Make sure that the holes for the
pressure sensor are not covered. Refer to Fig 2.
The space above the connectors must be 118 mm
high.
Leave enough of space all round the connectors to
be able to connect and disconnect them.
There must be a 5 mm clearance around the ECU in
all directions. Refer to Fig 3.
When the ECU is installed, the earth strap washer
shall be oriented as shown in Fig 3.
1. On the engine, connect the fuel hose (1) between the
points (E) and (F) to create a bypass. Refer to Fig 1.
2. Choose the place where the vibration is the least and
install the ECU with the saved 4 screws, M8. Tighten the
screws. Tightening torque 24 Nm (17.7 lbf ft).
Permitted installation angles (A, B, C), refer to Fig 2,
±30° from the horizontal axis :
-5° ≤ A ≤ 185°
-90° ≤ B ≤ 30°
0° ≤ C ≤ 5°
3. Connect the wiring harnesses (2 and 3) at two points
(1) on the ECU. The wiring harnesses are marked. Use
the M8 screws. Refer to Fig 4.
Torque the screws to 24 Nm (17.7 lbf ft).
NOTE! The ECU has two, individually coded 62-pin con-
nectors, which are locked by a catch on each connector.
The first fixing point for the wiring harnesses must be on
the ECU, to avoid movement between the ECU and the
wiring harnesses.
IMPORTANT! Angle the wiring harnesses after the instal-
lation to avoid water entry, refer to Fig 2D.

Technical requirements / Control measurements
The Engine Management Unit, EMS is certified and
complies with the technical requirements of the
Directive 95/54/EC - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
in Vehicles.
The values therein must not be exceeded.
1. The ECU unit is mounted on vibration damping rubber
feet to protect the unit from vibration. Make sure that each
installation complies with the vibration requirements.
Vibration levels are specified for the installation points.
The following levels must not be exceeded.
Frequency range 10-2000 Hz
Level
10-300 Hz, 5 g
300-1000 Hz, 10 g
1000 Hz, 25 g
2000 Hz, 5 g

Make the measurements on the screws at the anchorage
points (not the EMS unit housing). Report the results of
the measurements in the same units as on the axes of
the graph.
NOTE! The EMS (Engine Management System) is classi-
fied to IP 59K.
2. To verify the installation temperature, measure the
temperature inside the control unit in the gray marked
area (T). Refer to Fig 5.
Min ambient temperature is 40°
Max ambient temperature is 90°C
Recommended maximum ambient temperture is 50 °C
IMPORTANT!
Shield the ECU from chemicals.
It is not allowed to install further components and
extra cables on the ECU or its fixings because of the
vibrations.
The earth cable on the ECU's vibration dampers
must have good electric contact to comply with the
EMC Directive. Do not paint this contact area.
Connection path to the engine block must be as short
as possible.
The earth cable must not touch surrounding surfaces.
