General
The air-conditioning system may only be
operated with the engine running other-
wise the vehicle battery will become dis-
charged.
Cooling is not available if the air-condi-
tioning system has been electrically con-
nected so that the fans can be switched on
when the engine is off. Only the air inside
the vehicle will be circulated when the air-
conditioning system is operated with the
engine off.
The air-conditioning system can only op-
erate when it has been filled with the re-
frigerant and lubricating oil for refrigerating
compressors specified in the installation
and service manual.
Without temperature controller, the tem-
perature of the air-conditioning system is
controlled via the anti-icing thermostat in-
stalled in the system. The compressor is
switched off by this thermostat when the
evaporator icing temperature is reached.
The evaporator and condenser fans con-
tinue to run. The compressor is switched
on again when the threshold temperature
of the anti-icing thermostat is exceeded.
Roof-top Air-conditioning System CC4E, CC5 and CC8
If the temperature controller is installed
(optional), any desired cabin temperature
can be set between 10 and 30 °C. The
compressor is switched off when the set
temperature is reached. The radial and
axial fans continue to run. The cabin tem-
perature rises again and the compressor
is reactivated when the threshold temper-
ature is reached.
To cool and dry the interior rapidly in the
presence of high outside temperatures
and sunlight, it is advisable to operate the
air-conditioning system in recirculating-air
mode with the fan set to power stage 3 at
first. Depending on the outside tempera-
ture, the fan can then be switched down to
power stage 2 or 1 when a comfortable
temperature has been reached inside the
cabin.
If the vehicle has heated up strongly in di-
rect sunlight, it is advisable to open the
doors and windows for ventilation first be-
fore switching on the air-conditioning sys-
tem.
CC4E
The
electric air-conditioning sys-
tem can be operated either only when the
engine is running or when the ignition is
switched on. Your service centre will tell
you which type of installation your system
has. The system has a battery discharge
protection system if it is wired to operate
with the ignition switched on. If the electri-
cal system voltage falls below 20 V for
longer than 10 seconds or if the electric
motor suffers an overload (> 80 A/sec),
the system will cut out automatically. It can
be restarted by being switched on again.
