Remove the fastener screws which are
under the front cover, and remove the
timer-thermostat from the support base,
as seen in the figure below.

Remove the battery holder cover and
replace the dead batteries with another
two 1.5 V (AAA) batteries, paying attention
to the direction of the poles.
