prosthesis can be enclosed in a gel cap, using the Blom-Singer Gel
Cap Insertion System. The function of the gel cap is to:
1. Decrease the profile of the tip of the voice prosthesis by
folding and enclosing the esophageal flange in a forward position
inside the gel cap, so that the prosthesis tip is fully encapsulated.
This eliminates its presence during insertion of the prosthesis into
the TE puncture.
2. Reduce the trauma and force that may be associated with
Low Pressure voice prosthesis insertion by providing a smooth,
rounded shape to the tip end of the voice prosthesis, thus
enabling easy entry into the esophagus.
For instructions on using the gel caps, refer to the Instructions for
Use packaged with the Blom-Singer Gel Cap Insertion System. It
is recommended that the user discuss the use of this device with
a qualified, trained medical professional.
