3.5 CONSTRUCTING THE PIT

PONYBENCH BTPLUS is a fi xed lift and must be installed in a pit (FIG.5)
The pit measurements must be requested beforehand from the Manufacturer.
Figure 5: Pit dimensions
For the installation, the technical systems in the workshop
and the fl oor on which the lift will stand must be checked
and, if necessary adapted.

Carefully observe the following instructions :

The fl exible pipe is supplied by SPANESI S.p.A. ,
cut to a length of about 5 metres. This size is more
than suffi cient for most applications. However, if
longer connections are required to install the lift,
the power cable must be redone. Do not under any
circumstances splice electrical cables together. When
the electrical cable is replaced, before starting up the
lift, it is essential to recheck the earthing system by
running a continuity test on the unipotential protection
circuit.
When preparing the foundations, the following
instructions must be observed:
The area housing the lift – i.e. the pit fl oor – must be
fl at and perfectly level (tolerance of 5 mm along total
length).
If possible, excavate the pit with a disk saw, creating
a channel of the dimension shown on the above
mentioned drawing.
The pit fl oor must be cast in reinforced concrete with a
load bearing capacity of 250kg/cm2, using concrete in
class of 250 RBK or higher.
The depth of the pit fl oor casting must be not less than
200 mm and there must not be any fl aws in the casting
structure.
For greater convenience and work speed, we advise
you to use the pit-case supplied on request.
The pneumatic, hydraulic and electric connections -
from the control console containing the control unit to
the lift, must be buried and placed inside a rigid PVC
pipe with internal diameter of not less than 60 mm.
One of the pipe ends must, if possible, be provided
with a 90° bend in PVC.

To obtain the path of the rigid PVC pipe - which must
be buried - mark a straight line on the fl oor between
the pit and the position assigned to the control unit
console.
Using a pneumatic hammer or, if the type of fl oor
permits, a saw with cutting disk, make a channel on
the fl oor with a width about 2 or 3 cm greater than the
outer diameter of the PVC tube. The channel must be
of suffi cient depth to enable the free end of the 90°
bend to be placed perfectly level with respect to the
fl oor.
Carefully consider the installation position of the
control unit console: it must be far enough away from
the lift and at the same time ensure good visibility of
the work area.
Before positioning the lift, place a yellow, rectangular
perimeter tape over the assigned fl oor area, parallel to
the outer sides of the pit outline, with width of not less
than 10 cm. The tape delimits the danger zone. The
distance between the inner edge of the tape and the
pit edge must not be less than 35 cm on all sides.
