V. SET UP & USE OF YOUR WHEELCHAIR
T. Seat Frame Setup
Verify the Validity of the Seat Frame Setup (Fig. 44)
Set the chair with all four wheels
on a flat surface and set the seat to
a level position, using a bubble
level if possible. Dimension Y,
which is the vertical distance from
the center of the front caster arm
pivot bolt to the top of the seat
tube, should be between 4 and 5
inches (10.16 - 12.7 cm). If it is
less than 4" (10.16 cm) the rear
seat height should be raised or the
front seat height should be lowered
until Dimension Y is between 4 and
5 inches (10.16 - 12.7 cm). If it is
more than 5" (12.7 cm), the front
seat height should be raised or the
rear seat height lowered until Dimension Y is between 4 and 5 inches (10.16 - 12.7 cm).
Optionally, Dimension Y can exceed 5" (12.7 cm), but the posterior tilt range will be reduced
accordingly. Ensure casters are square when setup is complete.
U. Casters
1. Adjusting Caster Arm Position
a. Using a 4mm Allen wrench (5mm if transit is
installed) and a 10mm wrench, remove screw
(Fig. 45:B) and slide caster extension in or out
as desired.
b. Replace screw and nut and tighten. Repeat for
opposite side of chair.
2. Adjusting Caster Arm Angle
a. Using a 3mm Allen wrench and a 10mm
wrench, remove screw (Fig. 45:A) with mating
fastener and rotate caster arm to desired posi-
tion.
b. Replace screw and fastener and tighten.
Repeat for opposite side of chair.
NOTE: If desired, height adjustment can be changed with negligible change in wheelbase by
extending caster extension while increasing caster arm angle (See Fig. 45:B and C as an
example).
DANGER: Failure to comply with the instructions above may cause the wheelchair to tip forward
during use and result in a fall or loss of control and may cause serious injury or death.
