The maximum permissible vertical load (100 kg

or 105 kg) depends on whether the vehicle has a
2- or 4-wheel drive.
In the case of vehicles with 2-wheel drive the
vertical load sticker provided (max. 100 kg) must
be affixed in a conspicuous place near the trailer
hitch or inside the trunk.
Note:
Fitting is to be executed in accordance with these
instructions.
When using the trailer hitch, always observe the manufac-
turer's data regarding trailer load and vertical load. The figures
stated for the trailer hitch must not be exceeded.
Formula for ascertainment of D-value:
Trailer mass [kg] x gross vehicle mass [kg]
Trailer mass [kg] + gross vehicle mass [kg]
The maximum permissible combined weight of vehicle and
trailer must not be exceeded. The maximum permissible
weight for the car-trailer combination is stated on the vehicle's
identification plate. Your Ford dealer will be
pleased to help you if required.
Before using the coupling device, the correct trailer
electrical kit must be installed.

Please note: On vehicles with 2,5 l 5-cylinder petrol engine
the following equipment must be additionally fitted together
with the trailer coupling according to the position of steering
wheel and vehicle configuration (kit after run pump, see also
Ford Ecat system):

Right-hand drive:
In the area of the contact surfaces, undersealing, anti-
corrosion wax and noise-deadening material must be
removed. If necessary, apply corrosion protection according
to Ford Service guidelines.
Jack the vehicle up. Remove the rear bumper and impact
absorber as instructed in the Workshop Manual.
The impact absorber is no longer required.
Release the rear mountings of the inner wheel-arch linings to
gain access to rear side members.
Align the side parts (B + C) of the hitch with the holes in the
rear side members and tighten the bolts (4x F) to finger
tightness.

Align the transverse bar (A) with the holes in the side parts
and tighten the bolts (4x J) to finger tightness.
Tighten the bolts on the rear side members to the prescribed
torque first.

Then tighten the bolts on the transverse bar to the prescribed
torque.
Cut out the bumper in the central area as shown (L).
Replace the parts removed or loosened in accordance with
the Workshop Manual.
For journeys without trailer the ball neck must be demounted
and fastened down in the boot, as shown.
Instructions for using the removable ball neck are given in
the User's Manual of the Vehicle.
Operating notes:
The coupling ball must be kept clean and well greased (*).
(*) Exception:
When stabilisers are in use which act on the coupling ball,
proceed according to the instructions of the manufacturer of
the stabilisers. When stabilisers are in use, the coupling ball
must be inspected for wear at regular intervals.
As soon as a coupling ball diameter of 49.0 mm or smaller
has been been reached at any point, the towing device must
no longer be used in trailer operation; if necessary, the
towing device must be renewed.
The unladen weight of the vehicle will increase by appr.
23 kg following mounting of the towing device.

When mounting the trailer hitch on the car body,
make sure that the bolts and threads are free of
oil and grease.
