7. Notes for mounting and operating in hazardous areas (Europe)
The process pressure and temperature range of the medium, for applications which require
Category 1/2 equipment, must lie between 0.8 ... 1.1 bar and -20 ... +60 °C. If the thermometer is
operated outside of these atmospheric conditions, the approval as Category 1/2 equipment only
serves as a guideline. Additional tests for the specific expected operating conditions are recom-
mended.
A) The responsibility for classification of zones lies with the plant operator and not the manufac-
turer/supplier of the equipment.
B) Damaged thermometers may not be used.
Accordingly repairs may only carried out by qualified skilled personnel.
Repairs may only be completed using original spare parts from the source supplier; otherwise
the requirements of the certification are not fulfilled.
C) If a component of electrical equipment, on which the explosion protection depends, is repaired,
then the electrical equipment may only be put back into use, after an authorised expert has
stated that it corresponds to the fundamental characteristics of the requirements for explosion
protection. In addition this expert must provide a certificate for this and provide the equipment
with a test mark.
D) Point C) does not apply if the component was repaired by the manufacturer and subject to a
component testing.
E) When using a transmitter you must consider:
The contents of these operating instructions and those of the transmitter
The relevant regulations for installation and use of electrical systems
The regulations and guidelines regarding explosion protection
Transmitters must have their own certification
F) When ordering spare parts, the parts that are to be replaced must be specified exactly:
Explosion protection type (e. g. EEx d, EEx i)
Approval number
Order No.
Manufacturing No
Order item
G) Thermometers as explosion-protected equipment only fulfil the safety-relevant demands as
components, as defined in the approval.
Measuring elements or connection heads alone do not fulfil the requirements of explo-
sion protection.
The interconnection of arbitrary intrinsically safe components alone does not guarantee an
intrinsically safe system.
H) Installation to Zone 0 /20 (equipment Category 1/2)
The electrical circuits can be of the type EEx ia or EEx ib, with a current-limiting circuit/
component providing two-fault tolerance to the sensor. For this usage a separating element is
required.
