SLOPE
OPERATION
Slopesare a major factorrelatedto slip andfall accidentswhichcan resultin
severeinjury.Operationon slopesrequiresextracaution.Ifyou feel uneasy
on a slope,do not dethatchit.For yoursafety,usethe slope gaugeincluded
as part of this manual t o measureslopesbeforeoperatingthis unit on a
slopedor hilly area.Ifthe slope is greaterthan 15 degrees,do not dethatch
it.
Do:
•
Dethatchacrossthe face of slopes;never up anddown. Exercise
extremecautionwhen changingdirectionon slopes.
•
Watchfor holes,ruts,rocks, hiddenobjects,or bumpswhich can
causeyou to slip or trip.Tall grasscan hide obstacles.
•
Alwaysbe sureof your footing.A slip andfall can causeserious
personalinjury.If youfeel you are losingyour balance,releasethe
bladecontrol bail immediately, a ndthe blade will stop rotatingwithin
severalseconds

Do not dethatchnear drop-offs,ditchesor embankments,whereyou
could lose yourfooting or balance.

Do not dethatchslopes greaterthan 15 degreesas shownon the
slope gauge.

Do not dethatchwet grass. Unstablefooting could causeslipping.
SERVICE
Safe Handling Of Gasoline:
•
Toavoid personalinjury or propertydamage useextreme care in
handlinggasoline. Gasolineis extremelyflammableandthe vapors
areexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjury can occur when gasolineis
spilledon yourselfor yourclotheswhichcan ignite.Washyour skin
andchangeclothesimmediately.
•
Useonly an approvedgasolinecontainer.
•
Neverfill containersinsidea vehicle or on a truckor trailer bedwith a
plastic liner.Alwaysplace containerson the ground awayfrom your
vehiclebeforefilling.
•
Removegas-poweredequipmentfrom the truck or trailer and refuel it
on the ground. Ifthis is not possible,then refuel such equipmenton a
trailer witha portable container,ratherthanfrom a gasolinedispenser
nozzle.
•
Keepthe nozzlein contact withthe rim of the fuel tank or container
openingat all times until fueling is complete.Donot usea nozzle
lock-opendevice.
•
Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars, pipesand othersourcesof ignition.
•
Neverfuel machineindoorsbecauseflammablevapors will accumu-
late inthe area.
•
Neverremovegas cap or add fuel whileengine is hot or running.
Allow engineto coolat leasttwo minutes beforerefueling.
•
Neveroverfill fuel tank. Filltank to red indicatorbar insidetank.
•
Replacegasoline cap andtighten securely.
•
If gasolineis spilled, wipe it off the engine andequipment.Moveunit
to anotherarea.Wait 5 minutesbeforestartingengine.
•
Neverstorethe machineor fuel containernear an open flame,spark
or pilot lightas on a waterheater,spaceheater,furnace,clothesdryer,
or other gas appliances.
•
Toreducefire hazard,keepdethatcherfree of grass, leaves,or other
debris build-up.Clean up oil or fuel spillageand removeanyfuel
soakeddebris.
•
Allow dethatcherto coolat least 5 minutesbeforestoring.
General Service:
•
Neverrun an engine indoorsor in a poorlyventilatedarea. Engine
exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas.
•
Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertain the bladesand
all movingparts havestopped.Disconnectthe spark plug wire and
groundagainstthe engineto preventunintendedstarting.
•
Checkthe bladeand enginemountingfastenersat frequentintervals
for propertightness.Also,visuallyinspectbladesfor damage(e.g.,
bent, cracked,worn) Replacebladeswiththe original equipment
manufacture's(O.E.M.)bladeonly. Useof partswhich do not meetthe
originalequipmentspecificationsmay lead to improperperformance
andcompromisesafety!
•
Dethatcherbladesmay be sharp andcan cut. Wrapthe bladeor wear
gloves,and use extra cautionwhen servicingthem.
•
Keepall nuts,bolts, and screwstight to be surethe equipmentis in
safe workingcondition.
•
Nevertamper withsafety devices.Checktheir proper operation
regularly.
•
After strikinga foreignobject,stop the engine,disconnectthe spark
plug wire andground againstthe engine.Thoroughlyinspectthe
dethatcherfor any damage. Repairthe damagebeforestartingand
operatingthe dethatcher.
•
For safetyprotection,frequentlycheck componentsand replaceim-
mediatelywithoriginal equipmentmanufacturer's (O.E.M.)partsonly.
Useof partswhich do not meetthe original equipmentspecifications
may lead to improperperformanceand compromisesafety!
•
Do not changethe engine governorsettingor overspeedthe engine.
The governorcontrolsthe maximumsafe operatingspeed of the
engine.Donot crank engine withspark plug removed.
•
Checkfuel line, tank, cap, andfittings frequentlyfor cracks or leaks.
Replaceif necessary.
•
Maintainor replacesafetyand instructionlabels, as necessary.
•
Observeproperdisposallaws andregulations.Improperdisposalof
fluidsand materialscan harmthe environment.
