checking connections and verifying all settings, you determine the problem causing the "fault" condition is battery
voltage below 1V, you can override the charger's protection by holding down the "START" button for 3 seconds. The
charger will commence the charging sequence and, assuming these are no other hindrances that caused the fault
indication, will complete the charging process and automatically turn off when the battery has reached full charge.
4. When the battery approaches full charge and enters the Completion Phase, the green CHARGED indicator will
light and the CHARGING indicator will flash. At this point, if time is critical, the battery can be put into service if it
will be used in a charging situation, such as in a vehicle that that will be used immediately. To reach a true 100%
state of charge, the charger should stay connected until the charger reaches the Rest Phase, when only the green
CHARGED COMPLETE LED is lit. If a timed duration is chosen for the Mode selection, it is likely that the battery
will not reach this level of charge completion prior to time running out.
5. After charging is complete, press the START button to return the unit to Standby Mode, turn off the Master Power
Switch and unplug the charger from the AC power source. Then, disconnect the charger clamp not connected
directly to the battery first and DO NOT allow the clamp to touch anything. Then, disconnect the charger clamp
attached to the battery terminal. (See Connecting To Batteries... at the beginning of this section.)
NOTE: If a timed duration is chosen for the Mode selection, it is possible that the unit has already returned to
Standby Mode, in which case the START/STOP button does not need to be pressed. This can be verified by the
green button LED – if it is lit, the unit is still engaged and operational. If it is not lit, the unit is already in Standby
Mode.
Stable Power Mode Operation
ATTENTION: Do not plug the charger power cord into the AC power source or set any of the charger's controls
until told to do so in the following instructions.
ATTENTION: Connect and disconnect DC output clamps only after setting the power switch to the "OFF" position
and unplugging the AC cord from electric outlet. Never allow clamps to touch each other.
ATTENTION: Do not operate the charger in a closed area or restrict ventilation in any way. Ensure that there that
there are no obstructions to the air flow, so the internal fans can properly cool the unit.
Make a proper battery connection (see Connecting to a Battery in a Vehicle Section) and plug AC power cord into
an AC receptacle. Then, turn the master power switch to ON. The unit is now in Standby Mode.
1. In order to place the unit into Stable Power Mode, set the Function selection to PS Mode.
NOTE: If the FAULT indicator LED lights, disconnect from AC power immediately and determine the cause of the
alarm. A blinking FAULT light indicates reverse polarity connection error, while a solid ERROR light indicates the
detection of a battery fault, such as a shorted connection.
2. Once the Function setting has been set to PS Mode, choose a Mode setting appropriate for your application
and/or consistent with the OE requirements for the vehicle being serviced. There are three preset PS Mode
voltage targets to choose from: 13.4V, 13.7V, 14.1V.
NOTE: Make sure that the vehicle battery is in good condition and fully charged. A compromised battery can
jeopardize your diagnostic or repair efforts. The unit will not commence the Stable Power mode if the vehicle battery
is below 12.0VDC. Charge the battery first to ensure it has capacity.
3. Press the START/STOP button to initiate PS Mode (Stable Power) operation. The green LED on the button will
light to show that the unit is in operational mode. In addition, the amber CHARGING status LED will light.
NOTE: If, once you commence the PS mode function and the green button LED lights to Indicate operation has
begun, you change the FUNCTION or MODE switches, the unit will return to Standby Mode.
4. The charger will bring system voltage to the chosen level and hold it at that level, providing power as needed (to
a maximum of 40A) to the vehicle to maintain the chosen level. If you press the START/STOP button at any point
during PS Mode operation, the charger will stop operation and return to Standby Mode.
NOTE: If system voltage drops below the chosen level for any reason, the FAULT light will light solid to alert the
operator that the system is not being maintained as desired. Typically, the cause for such a situation is that vehicle
demand exceeds the maximum output of the charger (40A).
