Mounting the Wheel Guard
The tool is shipped with Type A (Cut-off ) and Type B (Grinding) wheel guard.
For operator safety, use only the guard that matches the wheel size being used and
also matches the application.
The grinding wheel guard and the cutting wheel guard are attached and removed
using the same steps:
• Open the guard latch (1), and align the lugs (2) on the guard with the slots (3) on
the gear case cover.
• Push the guard down until the guard lugs engage and rotate freely in the
groove on the gear case hub.
• With the guard latch open, rotate the guard into the desired working position.
The guard body should be positioned between the spindle and the operator to
provide maximum operator protection.
• Close the guard latch (1) to secure the guard on the gear case. Make sure the
guard cannot be rotated manually when the guard latch is closed. Don't operate
the grinder with a loose guard or with the guard latch in an open position.
• To remove the guard, open the guard latch, rotate the guard so that the lugs
and slots are aligned, and pull up on the guard.
• Only use the correct guard for the matching application. Grinding guards for grinding applications and Cutting guards for cutting
applications.
• Make sure the wheel guard is secure and adjusted to provide the operator with the maximum protection while operating.
• lf the guard cannot be tightened by the guard latch, do not use the tool and take the tool and guard to a service center to repair or
replace the guard.
• Do not tighten the adjusting screw with the guard latch in the open position. Undetectable damage to the guard or the mounting
hub may result.
• When using Type A (Cut-off) wheel guard for facial grinding, the wheel guard may interfere with the workpiece causing poor control.
• When using Type B (Grinding) wheel guard for cutting off operations with bonded abrasive wheels, there is an increased risk of
exposure to emitted sparks and particles, as well as exposure to wheel fragments in the event of a wheel burst.
• When using Type A (Cut-off) or Type B (Grinding) wheel guard for cutting off and facial operations in concrete or masonry, there is
an increased risk of exposure to dust and loss of control resulting in kickback.
Adjusting the Wheel Guard
The guard is pre-adjusted to the diameter of the gear case hub at the factory. If the guard
installed on the tool becomes loose after a period of time, tighten the adjusting screw (1) with
the guard latch in the closed position.
Spindle Lock
The spindle lock button (1) is provided to prevent the spindle from rotating when installing or removing wheels. Operate the spindle lock only when
the tool is turned OFF and the wheel has come to a complete stop. To engage the lock, press the spindle lock button (1) and rotate the spindle tightly.
Care of Grinding and Cut-off Wheels
Grinding and cut-off wheels should be protected from:
• All types of solvents
• Extreme temperature changes
• Dropping or Bumping
Grinding and cut-off wheels should be stored:
• In an organized manner so wheels can be removed without disturbance or damage.
• With their respective safety information.
• Grinding and cut-off wheels should not be bumped or dropped.
Discard any wheels that have been dropped or bumped, have been subjected to extreme temperatures, or come into contact with solvents or moisture.
