4.3 Adjusting the injector

The testing and adjusting of the fuel injector will be performed in the test bench,
with the purpose of adjusting the fuel injection pressure adjust, and to observe
the spray quality and to eliminate errors.
When the fuel injection pressure of the diesel injector is too high or too low, the
injection is not normal or the parts are damaged, the diesel engine could have
problems during operation, such as the presence of smoke, decreased power
and speed rotation, high temperature or shocks in the cylinder, etc. The revision
method for a problem in the injectors may be the system of "shift stop", i.e.,
loosen the connection nuts between the injector and the high-pressure fuel
pipes, one by one, to stop fuel injection and see in the meanwhile the color of
exhaust smoke. If there is a defective injector, it will stop injection and will not
produce smoke; rotation speed changes a little or it will not change. It is also
possible to rotate the wheel in each one to hear the sound of the fuel injection,
when the sound is lost, it means that the diesel injector in this cylinder may
have problems
1. Adjusting the diesel injector
1) Take the pressure pump at a gauge pressure near the working pressure
of the injector. Observe the fuel injection hole, there should be no
leakage or fuel leakage. If, after several tests, there are still leaks,
disassemble parts of the injection nozzle for cleaning; check and correct
before carrying out the test.
2) Adjust fuel injection pressure, to regulate the pressure, remove the
pressure adjustment nut, loosen or adjust this nut, and bring fuel
injection pressure to the indicated injection pressure, then tighten the nut
and try again.
3) Observe the spraying quality. Carry out a spray test interrupting the
injection each one / two seconds. Fuel must form a cloud with no visible
foam or drops, discarding nonuniform thickness or abnormal injection to
one side, etc. A clear sound occurs when the fuel supply is cut. In
general, an abnormal fuel injection is caused by the inflexible movement
of the valve of the needle in the injection nozzle. Fuel leaking on the
injection nozzle normally occurs due to surface damage or fuel
separation due to coal accumulation in the nozzle creating this
deformation.
