Installation instructions
Installing and connecting the
Volvo Penta IPS Dynamic Positioning System
IMPORTANT! Read through the complete instructions
carefully and install the DPS antenna according to the
instructions.
The Volvo Penta IPS Dynamic Positioning System (DPS)
can only be connected to the EVC-C3 with Volvo Penta
IPS-D, IPS2-A and future versions. Contact an authorized
Volvo Penta dealer to activate and configure the unit after
installation.
Location
1.
Select a suitable location on the boat for the DPS antenna.
The DPS antenna is normally installed on the targa bar.
IMPORTANT! In order to function correctly the DPS an-
tenna must be installed in a location with an uninterrupted
view of the sky.
- The DPS antenna must be installed with max. ± 2 de-
grees of yaw; (see illustration). The DPS antenna must
also be installed horizontally and at a parallel right angle
to the fore-and-aft and thwartships lines ± 3 degrees, in
clam waters, with the arrow (located on the underside of
the antenna) facing the bow.
- If necessary, the DPS antenna can be adjusted mecha-
nically (in pitch and roll) to max. 7 degrees.
- Install the DPS antenna at least 0.5 meters from radar
beams or VHF radio antenna.
IMPORTANT! Never paint the DPS antenna.
Measuring
2.
Measure the angle using an electronic inclinometer on the
boat.
- If the angle is within limits, refer to DPS antenna instal-
lation in standard position (±0 degrees).
- If the angle is outside tolerances, refer to the description
under: Adjusting the DPS antenna.
IMPORTANT! Installation angle tolerance must be within
±3 degrees from the DPS antenna and the horizontal
plane. If the angle needs to be adjusted, refer to the de-
scription under Adjusting the DPS antenna.
