Maintenance
The same maintenace requirement applies to the D4/
D6-SOLAS as is stated in the operator's manual for
the D4/D6, with the addition of the following points.
WARNING! Before performing any work, read
carefully through the chapter "Maintenance" in
the operator's manual for the D4/D6. It contains
instructions for correct and safe working proce-
dures.
IMPORTANT! When both operating hours and
calendar-based service intervals are given,
maintenance shall be performed at the interval
that occurs first.
After a dry test run:
IMPORTANT! The impeller in the sea-water
pump is designed to rotate in water. At delivery,
the inside of the pump housing is lubricated with
glycerin to protect the impeller during the first dry
start. The impeller will be damaged if it runs dry.
Glycerin should be used as a lubricant with dry
test runs.
The impeller will be damaged if other types of
lubricant than glycerin are used.
WARNING! If the impeller is damaged, the pump
will not work, which can lead to engine damage
or fire.
● Check the impeller (see figure A) after dry test
runs and starts have been performed for more
than totally:
- 30 minutes (applies if the pump housing is
lubricated with glycerin)
- 5 minutes (applies if the pump housing is dry)
If the impeller is cracked or damaged it must be
replaced. See instructions for replacement of im-
peller in the operator's manual for D4/D6.
Every 200th hour / At least once per year:
● Check the tension and condition of the drive belt.
See instructions for check of drive belt in the in-
struction book for D4/D6.
IMPORTANT! The tightening torque differs from
the value given the operator's manual for D4/D6.
Tightening torque for SOLAS-D4/D6 is 45 ± 5
Nm (33.2 ± 3.7 lbf ft). Please refer to figure B.
● Check the condition of the hose connections on
the solenoid valve. Tighten the hose clamps.
● Check the condition of the seals on the starter
motor drainage.
