4.1
Prerequisites for use
The air line breathing apparatus and hoses must be approved Dräger
components, which are combined with each other in the approved manner.
Otherwise the use of the product can be impaired.
The following prerequisites must be fulfilled:
The user must carry out a risk assessment of potential hazardous
substances in the workplace.
Only breathing air may be connected at the place of use in accordance with
EN 12021. Do not use oxygen-enriched breathing air. The user must
properly identify and avoid eventual perilous connections with systems
providing other gases (e.g. nitrogen) than breathing air according to
EN 12021.
The moisture content of the breathing air must be within the limits specified
in the standard, so that the equipment does not freeze.
The capacity of the external air supply system must be sufficient for all
connected users.
A safe retreat must be possible if the air supply via the air line fails.
Inlet pressure and flow at the distributor inlet of the air line breathing
apparatus must comply with the specifications in the technical data.
4.1.1 Compressed air supply
The coupling of the external air supply must be compatible with the inlet coupling
of the air line breathing apparatus.
If Dräger-approved medium-pressure hoses are used, a maximum of 100 m of
hose may be used. The line may consist of up to 4 individual hoses (maximum
of 5 hose connections). The maximum operating pressure for the Dräger
compressed air supply hose is 30 bar.
4.1.2 Pressure drop in the compressed air supply hose
CAUTION
The use of extension hoses leads to a pressure drop between the breathing air
supply and the distributor.
► To compensate for the pressure drop caused, increase the pressure of the
breathing air supply (e.g. ring line, compressor, etc.) accordingly.

the breathing air supply (as examples) needed to provide enough air at the
distributor inlet.

This table applies only when using approved Dräger supply hoses.
If the warning unit sounds, it might be that there is a pressure drop due to the
individual frame requirements of the breathing air supply. In this case, the
pressure must be increased until the warning unit does not sound anymore.
If the warning unit does not sound, the wearer does have enough air.
4.2
Preparations for use
The ventilation vest must be put on exactly according to the following
instructions.
4.2.1 Preparing the air line breathing apparatus
The distributor of the air line breathing apparatus must be worn on the left side
of the body so that it can be connected to the external air supply. If necessary,
rotate the distributor in the case, unfasten the waist belt, remove the back plate
(if installed) and rotate the distributor (see Fig. B on Page 4).
When reassembling, ensure that the lip of the whistle cover is under the rib in the
distributor mount (see Fig. E on Page 4).
The waist belt can be worn separately from the vest or attached to the vest with
straps that are fitted with press studs (see Fig. C on Page 4). If the waist belt is
attached to the vest, it sits higher on the waist of the wearer.
4.2.2 Putting on the ventilation vest
To ensure the effectiveness of the cooling, no thick or insulating clothing must be
worn under the ventilation vest. Dräger recommends wearing a long-sleeved shirt.
