The supply cable must be laid in such a way that it never tou-
ches the pipework and/or the pump and motor casing.
If necessary, a residual-current-operated circuit-
breaker (r.c.c.b.) is to be used.

Operation with frequency converter

The pump can be operated at variable speed in conjunction
with a frequency converter. Operating range between 40 % and
100 % of nominal speed.
See Installation and Operating Instructions of the frequency
converter for connection and operation.
To avoid loading the motor coil until damage is caused and
excessive noise is produced, the frequency converter may not
generate any speeds due to increases in voltage greater than
500 V/ms and voltage peaks û < 650 V. If such speeds due to
the increased voltage are possible, an LC filter (motor filter)
should be installed between the frequency converter and the
motor. The layout of the filter must be designed by the manu-
facturer of the frequency converter or filter.
Control units with frequency converters supplied by Wilo alrea-
dy contain a filter.

6 Operation

6.1
Filling and ventilating the unit
– Check that there is a sufficient level of water in the reservoir
and/or check the inlet pressure.
Do not allow the pump to run dry. Dry running

destroys the mechanical seal.
– If available, position float switches or electrodes for protec-
tion against low water levels in such a way that the pump
cuts out if the water level is so low that air would begin to be
sucked in.
– Close shut-off valve on outlet side
– Open shut-off valve on inlet side, open filling-/vent screw
(fig. 2, pos. 5) until pumping medium emerges.
Depending on the temperature of te pumping medium
and the system pressure, hot pumping medium may
be released or spray out under high pressure if the
vent screw is fully opened.
Beware of scalding.
– Close filling-/vent screw,

Controlling the direction of rotation:
Controlling the direction of rotation: check by switching on
briefly whether the direction of rotation of the pump matches
the arrow on the pump housing. If this is not the case, inter-
change 2 phases in the pump terminal box.

minutes if the flow rate Q = 0 m
sed stop valve). It is recommended that the
flow rate does not fall below 10% of the nomi-
nal flow rate to prevent an air cushion forming
in the pump.
– Slowly open shut-off valve on outlet side and swithc on
pump.
– Using a manometer installed on the outlet side check for
possible pressure instability, which can be identified by a
fluttering of the manometer needle. If the pressure is unsta-
ble, bleed the pump again (see para. 6.1).
– Check that the current consumption does not exceed the
nominal current data on the rating plate.

7 Maintenance

– The pump is almost maintenance free.
– The lifespan depends on the operating conditions, and may
vary. We recommend visual inspections every 6 months to
check for leaks and abnormal vibrations.
– During the running-in period, there may be some dripping
from the mechanical seal. In the event of a serious leak as a
result of heavy wear have the mechanical seal replaced by a
specialist.
– Increased bearing noise and unusual vibrations indicate a
worn bearing. In this case, have the bearing replaced by a
specialist.
– If the pump is exposed to frost, the pump and pipework must
be emptied in the cold season. Close shut-off valves and
open pump's drain (fig. 2, pos. 6) and filling-/vent screw (fig.
2, pos. 5).
– If placed in a frost-free location, the pump does not have to
be emptied, even if it is out of service for a long period.

Depending on the operating condition of the pump
and/or installation (fluid temperature) the entire pump
an become very hot.
Avoid touching the pump owing to the risk of burning.
Before carrying out any maintenance work, switch off
the pump and ensure that it cannot be switched on
again by unauthorised people. Never carry out work
on a running pump.
