Face Former and Face Former therapy
The Face Former is a patented training device for Face Former therapy. It is a
medical product made of soft high-quality Silopren (no latex). The material has
been approved for medical use; allergic reactions to the material are extremely rare.
Production is subject to a high standard of quality and is constantly monitored.
The Face Former consists of a labial vestibular mouth shield and a lip wedge. The
lip wedge is preset to an average lip force and therefore eliminates incorrect
loading with negative effects on the facial function system. Face Former therapy
supports treatment in dentistry, orthodontics, ENT medicine, general and internal
medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, dermatology, speech therapy,
physiotherapy, ergotherapy etc.
Therapy can be successful after only a very short period; a few days. Marked
improvement can be expected with daily training after approximately 4 – 16 weeks.
The therapy should, however, be continued for 6 months in total (even longer in
certain cases) to ensure new movement and behaviour patterns become automatic
responses. This considerably reduces relapses. Facial muscle pain (muscle soreness)
may occur during the first days of training. Training should be built up gradually
in order to avoid muscle pain:
In the first three days only 3 x daily with 8 – 10 repetitions of the basic exercise
and one tension exercise.
Then increase training to 3 x daily with 20 x basic exercise + one tension exercise
each! Once there is a marked improvement in nasal breathing, the Face Former
should also be used during the night after approx. 2 – 3 weeks. As habits have to
be changed initially, it is normal that the Face Former will be removed unnoticed
during the night. This may sometimes continue for 2 – 3 weeks. The essential
habitual nasal breathing is only gradually achieved if the Face Former is still in
position in the morning.
