WARNING Read all safety precautions and instructions. Any failure to follow these safety
precautions and instructions may result on electric shock, fi re and/or severe injuries.
Keep all safety precautions and instructions in a safe place for future reference.
The term "electric tool" used in the safety precautions refers to corded electric tools (operating on
mains power) and cordless electric tools (powered by rechargeable battery).
General safety precautions for electric tools
) Safety at the workplace
a) Always keep your work area clean and well illuminated. Untidiness or unlit work areas can
lead to accidents.
b) Do not use the electric tool in a potentially explosive environment containing combustible
liquids, gases or dusts. Electric tools generate sparks capable of igniting combustible dusts or
vapours.
c) Keep children and other persons away from the electric tool while it is in use. If distracted, you
could lose control over the tool.

) Electrical safety

a) The electric tool's power plug must fi t the power socket. The plug must not be modifi ed in
any way. Do not use any adapter plug in conjunction with earth-protected electric tools. Un-
modifi ed plugs and appropriate power sockets reduce the risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid physical contact with earthed surfaces, such as the surfaces of pipes, radiators, cookers
and refrigerators. There is a greater risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
c) Keep electric tools out of the rain and away from moisture. Any water penetrating an electric
tool increases the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not misuse the cord for carrying the electric tool, hanging it up or unplugging it. Keep the
cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving tool parts. Damaged or ravelled cords increase
the risk of electric shock.
e) When working in the open with an electric tool only use extension leads that are also suit-
able for outdoor use. Using an extension lead that is suitable for outdoors reduces the risk of
electric shock.
f) If operating the electric tool in a damp environment cannot be avoided, use a residual-cur-
rent-operated circuit-breaker (r.c.c.b.). Using an r.c.c.b. reduces the risk of electric shock.

) Personal safety

a) Be vigilant, pay attention to what you are doing and be sensible in your approach to working
with an electric tool. Never use an electric tool if you are tired or under the infl uence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of carelessness using the electric tool can lead to serious in-
juries.
b) Wear personal protective equipment and always put on protective goggles. Wearing per-
sonal protective equipment, such as dust mask, non-slip safety shoes, helmet or ear protectors
- depending on type and use of the electric tool - reduces the risk of injury.
c) Avoid starting the electric tool unintentionally. Make sure the electric tool is switched off
before you connect it to the power supply and/or rechargeable battery, pick it up or carry it.
