MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Entrust all repairs to your authorized
dealer only.
Before performing any maintenance,
ALWAYS park the machine on a level
surface with the Engine OFF and the
Engine Start Switch in the OFF position.
After each use CLEAN the machine.
LUBRICATION:
ENGINE OIL: Check daily. Change engine Oil and Oil
Filter after every 50 HOURS of operation. See engine
manual for oil type to use. 10W30 is generally recom-
mended.
*
Gas Models: 10W30 MS, SD, SE or better
*
Diesel Models: 10W30 CE or CD
Model:
18W
20KC
20H-HDAC
25KC
20D - Hatz
LUBRICATE BEARINGS DAILY:
Front Wheels
Rear Wheel
Blade Shaft Bearings
BLADESHAFT BEARINGS:
Lubricate daily with a Premium Lithium 12 based
grease conforming to NLG1 GRADE #2
consistency, without Molybdenum Disulfide.
When cutting dry, lubricate the blade shaft bear-
ings 2 or 3 times daily. The grease provides an
added protective seal for the bearings.
Replacement of Blade Shaft Bearings:
A. Remove the blade shaft from the saw by remov-
ing the capscrews (Fig 2, Item 16).
B. Remove the inner flanges (Fig 2, Item 18A) from
the blade shaft using a hydraulic press or a similar
press.
C. Loosen the setscrews (Fig 2, Item15B) on the blade
shaft bearing.
D. Remove the bearings from the shaft. Replace with
new bearings. Leave setscrews loose. Replace
the inner flanges (Fig 2, Item 18A).
E. Install the bladeshaft assembly back on the saw
by replacing and tightening the capscrews.
Capacity:
7 pints
4 pints
3.2 pints
4.2 pints
5.25 pints
F. Align the blade shaft to the center of the frame,
approximately 1-1/4" (32mm) from the side of the
frame to the outside of the inner flange.
G. Drill point the blade shaft at the setscrew locations.
H. Install the setscrews with Loctite 272, and tighten.
ENGINE CARE
Refer to the engine manual for detailed information.
CLEAN ENGINE AIR FILTER
Clean the air filter 2 or 3 times daily when dry cutting.
DO NOT clean the Inner Safety Element!!!!! If present.
Refer to the engine manual for detailed information.
DRIVEMATIC TRANSMISSION
A Hydrostatic Transmission ("DRIVEMATIC") (Fig 3, Item
6) makes this unit "SELF-PROPELLED." The saw can be
pushed by simply disengaging the transmission.
Maintenance of Transmission Drive:
Hydrostatic Transmission Oil:
DAILY: Check the oil against the level indicator on the
Oil Expansion Tank (Fig 3, Item 6A). Transmissions
are factory filled with an oil having a viscosity equivalent
to SAE20W20, API classification SE, CC, CD or better.
When adding oil, use SAE 30W30, API classification
SE, CC, CD or better. DO NOT use multiple viscosity
oils! If erratic operation occurs during HOT WEATHER,
drain oil and refill with an oil having a viscosity of SAE
30W30, or SAE 40W40, API classification SE, CC, CD
or better. DO NOT OVERFILL!!
Loose Drive Chain (Fig 3, Item 60)
The drive chain will stretch during normal operation. It
can be tightened by loosening the four (4) transmission
attaching Bolts (Fig 3, Item 7), and moving the
transmission UP in the slots of the Transmission
Platform (Fig 3, Item 1).
Friction Drive Wheels: (Fig 3, Item 58)
If the friction drive wheels DO NOT engage the rear
wheels with sufficient pressure, slippage of the rear
wheels may occur. To correct this situation, lengthen
the Engagement Linkage (Fig 3, Item 72) by loosening
the two (2) linkage adjustment Bolts (Fig 3, Item 73).
Lengthen the linkage bars, and re-tighten the bolts.
Hydrostatic Transmission Cooling Fins: (Fig 7, Item 6)
DO NOT allow the cooling fins of the transmission to
become covered, or clogged with dust or dirt. THIS
WILL NOT ALLOW PROPER COOLING IN THE
TRANSMISSION OIL!
