H-17 • Radiant Heaters
■ Testing the thermocouple:
- Remove the thermocouple from the heater.
- Connect an ohm meter between the thermo-
couple contact nut and tip.
- A reading of less than 1 ohm when the thermo-
couple is cool is acceptable.
■ Readings showing overload or infi nite resistance
indicate a defective thermocouple.
Gas Pressure Checks
A. Initial preparation
1. Ensure the proper fuel and gas pressure is
supplied before starting this procedure. LPG and
Natural gas pressure must be 5 PSIG
2. Obtain a high- pressure gas gauge kit capable
of reading up to 10 PSIG or order kit number
500-20736.
3. Close the fuel supply valve for all heaters in the
heat zone.
B. Pressure Gauge Installation
1. At the heater furthest away from the zone control
panel or gas supply, brush or blow off any dust and
dirt on the heater's gas hose connection at the gas
supply line.
2. Disconnect the heater's gas hose at this junction.
3. Connect the pressure test kit between the gas
supply and the inlet of the heater's gas hose.
Ensure both shut-off valves on the kit are in the
closed position when connecting the kit to the
heater.

C. Checking Pressures
1. Open the fuel supply valve to all heaters in the zone,
and the fuel supply valve on the test kit as shown
in Fig. 14.
2. Light all heaters in the zone.
3. With all heaters in the zone operating at full heat
output, the pressure gauge should read 5 PSIG.
4. Is the pressure 5 PSIG? If yes, the no further
checking is required and proceed to Section D.
If the pressure is not 5PSIG, then the regulator
controlling gas pressure to the heaters requires
adjustment, or the gas line needs to be checked for
proper sizing.
D. Completion
1. Once gas pressure has been confi rmed, close the
fuel supply valves to the heaters and allow the heat-
ers to burn off any gas remaining in the gas line.
2. Remove the gauge kit from the heater's gas supply
line and reconnect its gas supply hose.
3. Open the fuel supply valve and light all brooders.
