Leak tests
Check the full face mask after every use and after every maintenance
and repair.
Perform the leak test with a suitable test unit (e.g. from the Testor or
Quaestor series) and bayonet-type connectors and exhalation valve
test plugs.
(1) Checking leak tightness
Moisten the face seal and exhalation valve with water.
Mount the full face mask to the test head.
Make sure that the face seal fits tightly onto all parts of the test
head. Inflate the test head, if necessary.
Seal the connectors with bayonet-type connectors and produce a
negative pressure of 10 mbar.
The full face mask is considered leak-tight if the pressure drop is less
than 1 mbar/min. If the full face mask leaks, continue with (2).
(2) Test with sealed exhalation valve
Remove the exhalation valve disc.
Insert the exhalation valve test plug until it locks into place.
Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.
If the pressure drop is less than 1 mbar/min, remove the exhalation
valve test plug and insert a new valve disc.
Repeat the leak test (1). If the full face mask leaks, continue with
(3).
(3) Leak test under water
Immerse the test head including the full face mask with exhalation
valve test plug in water.
Produce an overpressure of approx. 10 mbar.
Slowly turn the test head under the water surface. Emerging air
bubbles indicate leaks.
Take the test head with the full face mask out of the water, repair
the full face mask, replace leaking components.
Remove the exhalation valve test plug and fit the exhalation valve.
Repeat the leak test (1).
After testing
Remove bayonet-type connectors.
Remove the full face mask from the test head and dry it if
necessary.
Fit the protective cap. Ensure that it locks into place.
Special maintenance work
Replacing the visor
Mask with metal visor frame: Hold the hexagon nuts in position and
unscrew the screws.
Mask with plastic visor frame: Unscrew the screws. Pry the visor
frame apart at the joints using a screwdriver, then pull it off to the
top and bottom.
Remove the clamping ring, slip ring and support plate, if necessary.
Detach the old visor from the rubber frame.
Insert the new visor first in the upper and then in the lower part of
the rubber frame.
The centre markings on the visor should line up with the seam on
the mask body.
Pull the rubber frame over the edge of the visor on the right and left
side.
Moisten the outside of the rubber frame and the inside of the visor
frame with soap water.
First press on the upper, then the lower visor frame.
Fit the slip ring and new clamping ring, if necessary. Attach the hook
to ensure the tightest possible fit of the clamping ring.
Push the support plate between the clamping ring and the slip ring,
if necessary; fit it into the lower visor frame and align it.
Mask with metal visor frame: Screw the screws into the hexagon
nuts and tighten until the gap between the clamping cams is
3 to 0.5 mm.
Mask with plastic visor frame: Insert and tighten the screws.
Replacing the valve discs on the control valves of the
inner mask
Pull out the old valve discs towards the inside.
Insert the studs of the new valve discs into the hole from inside and
pull them towards the visor until the undercut of the stud is visible.
The valve discs should lie evenly against the inside surface.
Replacing the threaded ring with integrated speech
diaphragm
Pull the inner mask out of the
groove of the threaded ring
with integrated speech
diaphragm.
Unscrew the threaded ring
with integrated speech
diaphragm with pin wrench
R 26 817.
Remove the O-ring from the
mask connector using the
sealing ring lifter R 21 402.
Check the O-ring and replace if necessary.
Wet the new O-ring with soapy water and insert it.
Screw in the new threaded ring with integrated speech diaphragm
and tighten with pin wrench R 26 817.
NOTICE
Attach the edge of the inner mask in the groove of the threaded ring
with integrated speech diaphragm; it should completely surround
the threaded ring with integrated speech diaphragm. The centre
markings on the mask connector and on the inner mask must
coincide.
Replacing the exhalation valve disc
Remove the protective cap from the mask connector.
Pull out the valve disc.
The valve disc and valve seat must be clean and undamaged.
Otherwise clean and replace.
Moisten the valve disc with water and insert it.
Fit the protective cap. Ensure that it locks into place.
Replacing the inhalation valve disc
Pull out the inhalation valve at the flap.
Remove the old valve disc and fit the new disc.
Press the inhalation valve into the connector until it has even
contact all around. The valve disc must not be jammed, the disc
points inwards, the supports point outwards.
Transport
Transport the full face mask in a carrying box or mask bag.
Storage
Loosen the harness as far as possible.
Wipe the visor with an antistatic cloth.
Pack the full face mask in its bag or mask carrying box.
Store it in a dry, dust-free place where it cannot become deformed.
Storage temperature: –15 °C to 25 °C.
Protect from direct sunlight and thermal radiation.
Observe ISO 2230 "Rubber Products - Guidelines for Storage" and
national regulations concerning the storage, maintenance and
cleaning of rubber products.
Disposal
Dispose of the full face mask and used filters according to the
applicable regulations.
