BEFORE YOU START
Introduction
The Sandman Duo™ and Sandman DuoST™ devices are designed for treating patients
with Sleep Disordered Breathing including Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS).
The main characteristic of this pathology is the night-time occurrence of multiple
respiratory events, which are brought on by a restriction or obstruction of the upper
airways resulting in a disturbance of sleep.
These devices can be operated in either Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
mode or Bilevel mode (which delivers two levels of pressure, one inspiratory and the
other expiratory) to prevent the upper airways from becoming obstructed and thereby
eliminate respiratory arrest. They can be used at home or in a sleep center. The ST
model allows a backup frequency to be set.
