Stopping treatment

When the Sandman Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device is on, take the following steps to
stop treatment:
1. If oxygen is used, stop the flow.
WARNING
You must stop the oxygen flow before turning off the device so that oxygen does not
accumulate in the device.
2. Remove the mask.
3. Press and hold the on/off button for several seconds (Item 4 of Figure 3 on page 7).
The device will go into standby mode and the humidification feature will stop
automatically.

Using the ramp feature

The Ramp feature allows for a gradual rise in pressure to help you go to sleep.
In CPAP mode, treatment begins at a low pressure, called the comfort pressure, and
rises from there to the pressure prescribed by the physician.
In Bilevel mode, the patient pressure is reduced to the comfort pressure and then raised
to the inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP) pressure and the expiratory positive
airway pressure (EPAP).
The ramp feature will start automatically once the device has been operating for 5
minutes as long as the ramp time is not zero. The symbol
left of the display at startup and will become steady once the ramp is active.
The ramp time may be set from 0 up to the maximum prescribed ramp time when the
device is in standby. To do this, follow the setting instructions for the Sandman Duo™
(page 19) and the Sandman DuoST™ (page 24).
The ramp time setting may be accessed directly by pressing the ramp button on the
front of the device (Item 3 of Figure 3 on page 7), but only when the device is in
standby. If the ramp time is set to 0, the ramp feature is disabled. To reactivate the
ramp feature, stop and restart the device by pressing twice the on/off button (Item 4 of
Figure 3 on page 7). This feature can be used if your sleep is interrupted during the
night and you have difficulty getting back to sleep.
Note:
The maximum ramp time is prescribed by your medical team and can bet set by your
home care provider in 5-minute increments from 0 (no gradual rise in pressure) to 45
minutes. It 0 was prescribed, the ramp function is disabled.
Similarly, the comfort pressure can be set from 3 cmH
when in CPAP mode, and from 3 cmH
(EPAP) when in Bilevel mode. For detailed instructions, see pages relating to settings:
page 19 for Sandman Duo™ and page 24 for Sandman DuoST™.
