Only use oil or shortening suitable for deep-frying, such
as vegetable shortening. Break blocks of fat into small
pieces. Make sure that there is enough oil or shortening
in the pot. Minimum depth 1 ¼" (3 cm).

shortening, or various types of fat mixed together, are
unsuitable. The hot fat can foam.
Heating shortenings and oils
Heat the shortening or oil with the lid on the pot. When
the audible signal sounds, the shortening or oil is hot
enough. You can now begin deep-frying your food.
