4.4. Battery removal and installation

Park the truck safely (see 3.2.4: Parking the truck safely) and switch off the power before removing
and installing the battery.
Battery removal and installation steps:
Lift the forks by moving the control shaft (1) up and down to the highest point. Then
a:
rotate the control shaft (1) a few degrees to the left or right.
b:
Remove the two screws (2) before removing the cover (3).
c:
Remove the wire harness and battery cable. Remove the battery (4).
Warning!
Ensure that the cables are positioned correctly to avoid damage when removing and installing the
battery.
The battery is installed by reversing the order of the removal instructions. Pay careful attention to
the cable connection and the position of the battery. Ensure that the cables are positioned correctly
to avoid damage when removing and installing the battery.
a:
Remove two screws (1), and remove the cover.
b:
Remove four screws (2).
c:
Remove the three battery cables (3) as shown in the illustration.
d:
Move the rotary operating handle (4) as far as it will go.
e:
Pull the electrical panel (5) out a little.
Turn the electrical panel (5) in the direction shown in the illustration until the battery is
f:
fully exposed.
g:
Loosen the battery clamp screws. Insert battery (6) or remove battery (6).
Reverse the order of operations to complete installation. Please pay particular attention to the
battery installation position and the cable connection. Please ensure that the cables are positioned
correctly to avoid being damaged as you remove and install the battery.
Warning!
Ensure that the cables are correctly positioned to avoid damage when removing and installing the
battery.

4.5. Battery maintenance

Do not overuse the battery:
• If you fully drain the battery until you are no longer able to move the pallet, the length of time
that the battery is able to hold its charge will be reduced.
• If the battery symbol is displayed, then it needs to be charged. Please charge it quickly.
Battery maintenance:
The battery cell covers must be kept clean and dry. The terminals and cable shoes must be clean,
secure and be lightly coated in dielectric grease. Batteries with non-insulated terminals must be
covered with a non-slip insulation mat.
Warning!
1. Do not use a dry or fibre cloth to clean the battery to avoid static that may cause an explosion.
2. Remove the battery plug.
3. Clean with a damp cloth.
4. For your safety, protective rubber overshoes, rubber gloves and safety glasses to protect your
eyes must be worn.

4.6. Battery disposal

Batteries must be disposed of in accordance with national environmental protection regulations or
disposal laws. The disposal instructions provided by the manufacturer must be followed.
Batteries contain an acid solution which is both poisonous and corrosive. As a result, protective
clothing and eye protection must always be worn when working with batteries. Above all, avoid any
contact with battery acid.
If clothing, skin or eyes come into contact with battery acid, rinse the affected areas with plenty of
clean water. Seek medical advice immediately if the skin or the eyes are affected. Neutralise any
battery acid spills immediately.
Only batteries with a sealed battery container may be used.
The weight and dimensions of the battery have a considerable effect on the operational safety of the
truck. Battery equipment may only be replaced with the manufacturer's agreement.

5. PALLET TRUCK MAINTENANCE
5.1. Operational safety and environmental protection
• The servicing and inspection operations contained in this chapter must be performed in accord-
ance with the intervals indicated in the servicing checklists.
• Any modification to the pallet truck assemblies, in particular the safety mechanisms, is prohib-
ited. The operational speeds of the truck must not be changed under any circumstances.
• Only original spare parts have been certified by our quality assurance department. To ensure safe
and reliable operation of the pallet truck, use the manufacturer's spare parts only. Used parts,
oils and fuels must be disposed of in accordance with the relevant environmental protection
regulations. For oil changes, contact the manufacturer's specialist department.
• Upon completion of the inspection and servicing, complete the activities listed in the "Recom-
missioning" section.
5.2. Maintenance safety regulations
Maintenance personnel:
Industrial trucks must only be serviced and maintained by the manufacturer's trained personnel.
The manufacturer's service department has field technicians specially trained for these tasks. We
therefore recommend a maintenance contract with the manufacturer's local service centre.
Lifting and jacking up:
When an industrial truck needs to be lifted, the lifting gear must only be secured to the points
specially provided for this purpose.
When jacking up the truck, please take appropriate measures to prevent the truck from slipping or
tipping over (e.g. using wedges, wooden blocks).
You may only work underneath a raised load handler if it is supported by a sufficiently strong chain.
Cleaning:
Do not use flammable liquids to clean the industrial truck.
Prior to cleaning, all safety measures required to prevent sparking (e.g. through short circuits) must
be taken. For battery-operated trucks, the battery connection cable must be removed.
Only weak suction or compressed air and non-conductive antistatic brushes may be used for clean-
ing electric or electronic assemblies.
If the truck is cleaned using a water jet or a high-pressure cleaner, all electrical and electronic
components must be carefully covered beforehand as moisture can cause malfunctions. Do not
clean with pressurised water.
After cleaning the truck, carry out the activities detailed in the "Recommissioning" section
Electrical System:
Only personnel with an appropriate level of training may work on the truck's electrical system.
Before working on the electrical system, please take all precautionary measures to avoid electric
shocks.
For battery-operated trucks, the truck must be de-energised by removing the key.
Settings:
When repairing or replacing hydraulic, electric or electronic components or assemblies, always note
the truck-specific settings.
Tyres:
Tyre quality affects the stability and performance of the truck. When replacing factory-fitted tyres,
please use original manufacturer's spare parts only, as otherwise the data plate specifications will
not be kept.
When changing wheels and tyres, ensure that the truck does not slew (e.g. when replacing wheels
always replace the left and right wheels at the same time).

5.3. Servicing and inspection

Thorough and expert servicing is one of the most important requirements for the safe operation
of the industrial truck. Failure to perform regular servicing can lead to truck failure and poses a
potential hazard to personnel and equipment.
The service intervals stated are based on single shift operation under normal operating conditions.
They must be reduced accordingly if the truck is to be used in extreme conditions with large
amounts of dust, extreme temperature fluctuations or multiple shifts.
The following maintenance checklist lists the tasks and the intervals after which they should be
carried out. Maintenance intervals are defined as:
W = Every 50 service hours, at least weekly
A = Every 500 operating hours
B = Every 1,000 operating hours, or at least annually
C = Every 2,000 operating hours, or at least annually
W service intervals are to be performed by the customer.
In the run-in period—after approx. 100 service hours—or after repair work has been carried out, the
owner must check the wheel nuts/bolts and re-tighten them if necessary.
