1.) General information
The anchor rope or anchor loop serves as an anchor point on
access openings to enclosed spaces or other areas in which a fall
from a height is possible. During use, it is important that all persons
secure themselves against falling into the access opening or onto
the fall edge. When working in enclosed spaces/areas in which a
fall from a height is possible, make sure that a safety system with a
body harness is used, which allows the worker to be rescued in the
event of an emergency, e.g. a retractable fall arrester with rescue
lifting device (EN 360 in conjunction with EN 1496), and that a
corresponding rescue plan is available. The free fall and fall height
must be restricted to a minimum — impact on the ground or
obstacles must not be possible. The fall-arrest system for which the
anchor cable or anchor loop is being used as an anchor point must
be equipped with the means to limit the dynamic forces arising
during a fall-arrest procedure to 6kN (see Fig. 1).

Before qualified and trained staff can use the equipment, all
materials used in the fall-arrest system must be checked thoroughly
by the above-mentioned people, including both a visual inspection
and a functional test. If there is any doubt concerning the safe use
of the products, they must be removed from use immediately. The
system's stability must be ensured using a structure that
corresponds to its intended use and evaluated in each case within
the scope of a thorough risk assessment.
