4) Position the mount/demount tool (16, Fig. P) by hand against the edge of the rim.
Lock the vertical slide (10, Fig. P) and swing arm (11, Fig. P) as described under 2 of the demounting procedure.
IMPORTANT! If you are mounting a tyre previously demounted or on wheels with the same size rims, there is no need to use the
handle (9, Fig. P) every time to lock or unlock the swing and vertical arms. Simply tilt back the tower (8, Fig. P) and reposition it
with the pedal (7, Fig. P).
To prevent industrial accidents, keep hands and
other parts of the body as far from the tool arm
as possible when the table top is turning.
5) Guide the tyre so that the lower bead is above the forward portion of the
mount/demount head (16, Fig. P : See Fig. T).
IMPORTANT! If the tyre is tubeless, mount it with the valve at 180°
from the tool arm.
6) Now depress the pedal (1, Fig. P) to begin clockwise rotation. Utilize the
wheel's drop-centre area by pushing down on the sidewall nearly opposite
the head to reduce tensional force on the bead as the wheel rotates.
7) Insert the inner tube if the tyre has one.
8) Once the lower bead is completely mounted, repeat the previous procedures for the upper bead. When the tyre is mounted, depress pedal
(7, Fig. P) to move the tower (11, Fig. P) to its non-work position.
9) Depress pedal (5, Fig. P) to release the wheel from the table top.
N.B. Demounting and mounting are always done with the table top rotating clockwise. Anticlockwise rotation is used only to correct
operator errors or if the table top stalls.
SPECIAL WHEELS
When equipped with special optional accessories, the S 45 is able to work on special wheels: PAX SYSTEM (with PT+KPX), SR Sup-
port Ring (with PT+KSR) and Run Flat, low profile and UHP (with PT).
The correct working procedures for these wheels are described in the instruction manuals provided with the specific accessories.
10.5 DEMOUNTING AND MOUNTING WHEELS WITH LOW PROFILE, UHP OR RUN FLAT TYRES
The manufacturer has developed this procedure to provide operators in the sector with correct working procedures for UHP and
reinforced-sidewall run-flat tyres.
Thorough studies have revealed that an incorrect working procedure causes often irreparable damage to tyres during mounting and
demounting, putting the safety of the vehicle itself at risk.
Low-profile tyres are tyres having a ratio between their height (H) and cross-section width (C) of less than 1; e.g. the 60 low-profile
series has a H/C ratio of 0.6.
Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyres have a height-width ratio of 45% or less, and a velocity index of V or above.
Run-Flat tyres are tyres which still allow the vehicle to travel for a specified distance at a specified speed, which varies from constructor
to constructor, even if no longer pressurised. This is achieved by using a different rubber blend and a reinforced structure, which enable
the shoulder of the tyre to support the weight of the car even when the pressure inside it has fallen to zero, allowing the vehicle's driver to
reach the nearest service centre in safety.
At present, there are two different types of run-flat tyres on the market: the reinforced sidewall type, also known as self-supporting
