Food decomposition capacity
Under ideal conditions the ProfiClear Premium Fleece biology can decompose the following amount
of food:
ProfiClear Premium Fleece 500: Approx. 380 g of food per day
ProfiClear Premium Fleece 750: Approx. 320 g of food per day
The consumption capacity increases if the filter system is supplemented with the ProfiClear
Premium Moving Bed L and or ProfiClear Premium Standing Bed Module L.
OASE BioKick
BioKick contains millions of active micro-organisms. They start cleaning the water immediately. The
biology in the filter is fully developed within only a few weeks.
Nitrification
Nitrification is the process by which ammonia/ammonium and nitrite are removed from the water by
special bacteria. These substances can build up in the water, for example as a result of fish food and
fish excrement. Ammonia is particularly toxic for fish.
Nitrification takes place in two steps. In the first step, the bacteria convert the ammonia/ammonium
into nitrite. In the second step, other bacteria convert this nitrite into nitrate, which although non-
toxic, promotes the growth of algae. Both steps use oxygen that is taken from the water.
Denitrification
Denitrification is the process by which nitrate is broken down to gaseous nitrogen. In the event of a
low oxygen content, the bacteria use the nitrate nitrogen as a source of oxygen and convert it into
atmospheric nitrogen. Atmospheric nitrogen cannot be used by algae and aquatic plants.
Water change in the pond
The entire water volume pumped into the filter system flows back into the pond after filtration. No
pond water flows out in a controlled manner via the filter system.
It is your responsibility to change the water in the pond.
For a koi pond, changing approximately 5-10 % of the pond water every week is usual.
Drain the corresponding water volume from the pond while the pump is running, then fill it up
with fresh tap water.
