Clean the area around the oil filter. Place a container under the filter to catch
any oil and remove the filter. SeeFigure 25.

Place the new filter in an open pan with the open side facing up. Fill with
new oil until the oil reached the bottom of the threads. Wait two minutes for
the oil to be absorbed by the filter material.
8.
Apply a thin film of clean oil to the rubber gasket on the filter.
9.
Carefully install the new filter.
10.
Refill the engine with the recommended oil and check the oil level; refer to
Checking and Adding Oil in the Assembly Section.
11.
Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick securely.
12.
Reconnect spark plug wire.
Air Cleaner and Pre-Cleaner
Pre-Cleaner
1.
Open the air cleaner access door and unhook the latch. See Figure 26.

Remove the pre-cleaner.
3.
Replace or wash the pre-cleaner in warm water with detergent. Rinse
thoroughly and allow the pre-cleaner to air dry.
4.
Hook the latch and close the access door.

Open the air cleaner access door and unhook the latch. See Figure 26.
2.
Remove the air cleaner and pre-cleaner from the base.
3.
Service the pre-cleaner as instructed above.
4.
Install the new or serviced pre-cleaner over the new air cleaner and install
on the base.
5.
Hook the latch and close the access door.
Spark Plug
DO NOT check for a spark with the spark plug removed. DO NOT crank the
engine with the spark plug removed.
If the engine has been running, the muffler will be very hot. Be careful not
to touch the muffler.
The spark plug should be checked every 25 hours and changed once a season or
every 100 hours. To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must also be
properly gapped and free of deposits.

Remove the spark plug boot and use a spark plug wrench to remove the
plug, see Figure 27.

Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard the spark plug if there is any
apparent wear, or if the insulator is cracked or chipped. Clean the spark plug
with a wire brush if it is to be reused.
NOTE: A resistor spark plug must be used for replacement. Contact a Sears
Parts and Repair Center for a replacement spark plug (Part # KH-25-132-
14-S).
