• Please contact the responsible prosthetist if assistance is required during the start-up, use
or maintenance of the product, or in the event of unexpected operating behaviour or cir-
cumstances.
Only put the product into use in accordance with the information contained in the accompanying
documents supplied.
1 Application
The 8E44=6 resp. 8E44=7 Transcarpal Hand is to be used solely for the fitting of upper limb
prostheses. It allows for the fitting of very long residual limbs, including transcarpal amputations.
The 8E44=* Transcarpal Hand is designed exclusively for use on one patient. Use of the product
by other persons is not approved by the manufacturer.
2 Safety precautions
Failure to follow the safety instructions given below can lead to damage to or
malfunction of the product. Follow the safety instructions and the precautions specified
in this accompanying document.
• Do not use silicone spray when putting on the prosthetic glove, because silicone spray may
compromise secure fit of the glove. We recommend using 633S2 Ottobock Procomfort Gel
as a mounting aid.
• In order to reduce the malfunctioning risk of the Transcarpal Hand and the connected components
due to strong electromagnetic radiation (e.g. when near high-tension power lines, transmitters,
transformers or security systems for goods in department stores), the electrode gains should
be set as low as possible.
• Before interrupting or establishing electrical connections (such as when removing the hand from
the prosthesis), the system must be disconnected from the power supply. For this purpose,
either remove the battery from the battery receptacle or turn the prosthesis off by pressing the
button in the charging receptacle.
• Modifying component parts without the written consent of the manufacturer is strictly
prohibited.
• The Transcarpal Hand has been developed for everyday use and must not be used for unusual
activities such as extreme sports (free climbing, paragliding, etc.). Careful handling of the
prosthesis and its components not only increases their service life but, above all, ensures the
patient's personal safety! Should the prosthesis be subjected to unusual stresses (such as a
fall), immediately contact your prosthetist and have the prosthesis inspected for any damage. If
necessary, the responsible prosthetist will pass the prosthesis on to the Ottobock Myo-Service.
• If you do not achieve the expected results by adjustment and by selection of the appropriate
control mode, please contact an Ottobock Myo-Service facility.
• Use the "Patient Information" section of this pamphlet (Section 3) to inform your patient about
the function and use of the Transcarpal Hand.
• Please provide your patient with the 646D44 Patient Information.
