To recharge the lithium-ion battery, only charging
devices may be used which have been explicitly appro-
ved for this battery by the manufacturer. Using other
charging devices might destroy the battery.
Once the charging device is connected, the BMS
(battery management system) is notified via the
auxiliary contact that a charging device is connected
1
to the battery. The BMS can now start charging. This is
done via the pilot contact. To send the start signal to
the charging device, a potential-free contact is closed in
the BMS.
The charging device controls the charging current on
1 1
its own and monitors the charging process. Charging
takes place in multiple charging phases, according to a
charging characteristic curve permanently stored in the
charging device. Hereby, the most important limit valu-
es, such as voltage, current and time of the individual
phases, are constantly monitored and evaluated.
If irregularities occur during the charge or if charging is
ended by the BMS, this potential-free contact is opened
and the charging process interrupted.
