Purpose
Install a pitot tube into a transom shield assembly.
Affected Models
Kit PN 24070903 applies to: All transom shields for
SX, DPS, and FWD sterndrives.

Procedure
NOTICE! Installation of the pitot tube will require
removal and installation of the engine,
transom shield and sterndrive. Consult
the appropriate workshop and
installation manuals for these
procedures.
WARNING! Risk of injury, make sure the
engine, transom shield, and sterndrive are
properly supported while performing the
installation.
Installing Pitot Tube
1. Remove the engine, sterndrive, and transom
shield assembly from the boat. Consult the
workshop manual for appropriate procedures.
2. Ensure that fittings A, B, and C on pitot tube (P/N
3883479) did not move or become detached
during shipping. If they did, reinstall in correct
location.
3. Locate the retaining clip D and plug E that are
currently installed on the transom shield.
4. Remove retaining clip F on the lower plug G.
5. Push plug G from the front of the transom and
through to the back of the transom. If the plug is
not easily removed, it can be cut from the front,
and then the remaining plug pushed through to the
back
6. Put some grease on fitting H at the location shown
by J. This is where the fitting will seat in the
housing. The grease will help the fitting slide
through the transom and seat correctly.

7. Push pitot tube through the hole in the transom.
Continue feeding the pitot tube through the hole up
to fitting K. Push fitting K into the hole until it is
properly seated. Ensure that fitting K is not pushed
too far into and through the transom shield.
WARNING! Fitting K on the pitot tube must be
installed securely and be seated properly.
Failure to install Fitting K correctly may cause
flooding of the boat.
8. Route the pitot tube over the bellows to the port
side of the transom shield.
9. Run the pitot tube down along the water hose to
the bottom of the transom shield.
NOTICE!
This cable tie is to keep that the pitot tube
and fitting tight. Make sure cable tie is secure
enough that pitot tube and fitting do not come loose
and pull back through the transom shield.
10. Install fitting L into the hole shown at location M.
11. Install one cable tie (P/N 3852158) around pitot
tube and water hose at as shown at location N.
12. Install one cable tie (P/N 3852158) on pitot tube on
the inside of the transom shield at location P.
13. Remove cable tie at location Q. This cable tie does
not need to be replaced.
14. Remove and replace cable ties (P/N 3852158) at
location R and location S, including the new pitot
tube inside of the cable tie.
15. Ensure pitot tube is not kinked or will get jammed
in any way by movement of the transom shield.
16. If adjustment is necessary, make any adjustments
needed to ensure pitot tube will not be damaged.
17. Reinstall transom shield assembly.
18. Reinstall engine and sterndrive.
