Appropriate extension and/or flexion stop size must be determined by a health care
provider.
A. Flexion stops (0 degree to 90 degrees in 10 degree increments), labeled respectively
F0 thru F9. (Flexion kit must be ordered separately.)
B. Extension stops (0 degree to 40 degrees in 10 degree increments), labeled
respectively 0 through 4.
Adjusting the extension and/or flexion ROM
1. Remove the condyle pads from the medial hinge (Figure 2). Remove the two
retaining screws (Figure 3) and slide out the installed stop (Figure 4). It may be
helpful to use a screwdriver or pen to remove stop(s).
2. Install the desired extension and/or flexion stop(s) from the posterior of the hinge
(Figure 5a or 5b). The number on the stop(s) must be right side up when installing.
If adding flexion control to the hinge, first nest the extension and flexion stops
together before installing (Figure 5b).
Note: It may make stop installation easier if the hinge cover is first removed. To
remove the hinge cover, peel off the hinge sticker and remove the two screws using
the 1/16" Allen wrench (Figure 6 and 7).
3. Proper stop placement can be verified by ensuring the "E" and "F" holes on the
hinge line up with the holes in the stop(s). If holes do not align, remove any excess
plastic material from the stop edges which may be preventing alignment. To hold the
extension stop in place, rotate the frame into extension.
4. Gently secure extension stop screw, but do not completely tighten. Secure
flexion screw applying a maximum torque of 6 in-lb (do not over tighten). Finally,
completely tighten the extension screw to a maximum torque of 6 in-lb (do not over
tighten).
5. If hinge cover was removed, replace screws and sticker.
6. Repeat stop installation for the lateral hinge. If the ROM control was changed on the
medial hinge, you MUST change the ROM control to the same degree on the lateral
hinge.
CAutION: The flexion and extension stops are intended to provide moderate
restriction of the range of motion of the knee. Results can vary according to activity,
weight, and soft tissue composition of the leg. The MVP
only and is not intended or guaranteed to prevent knee injury.
It should be applied by a licensed healthcare practitioner and as directed by a
physician or other qualified medical authority. Össur accepts no responsibility for any
injury which might occur while using the orthosis.
