5.4 Balancing
Unless otherwise indicated, the generators are balanced by means of a half-flap positioned on the end of the
shaft, in accordance with regulation IEC 60034-14.
5.5 Coupling
Carefully align the generator and drive motor.
Use the eyebolts present on the D side fitting and on the N side shield to position the generator.
WARNING! Never loose or remove the tie rods blocking the bearings of the generator, otherwise see
Chapter 6.5.
Improper alignment may generate vibrations and damage the bearings. Make sure that the torsional
features of the generator and motor are compatible. If a compatibility check is necessary (by the customer),
Marelli Motori can provide the rotor drawings for the torsional checks.
In case of single bearing generators, check all the dimensions of the flywheel and flywheel cover of the first
motor;
also check the dimensions of the generator's flanges and joints.
In case of double bearing generators, the alignment check is carried out using a thickness calibrator and by
making sure that the "S" distance between the half-joints is equal throughout the circumference and by
checking the coaxiality of the outer surfaces of the half-joints against a comparator.
The checks must be carried out on 4 diametrically opposed points, the alignment errors must be within the limits
provided by the manufacturer of the joint and can be corrected by means of lateral displacements or by inserting
thicknesses between the feet and base. Always recheck the alignment after fixing the generator.
Check the vibrations of the generator installed in the unit while the latter is operating with an empty
load.

5.6 Electrical connections

The generators are usually supplied with 12 terminals (clamps).
The inlet of the connection cables in the terminal box is to the right (on the coupling side). On some models, the
outlet of the cables can be on the right or left depending on the position of the voltage regulator. Usually, both
the star series and parallel star can be connected however, when changing the connection (from the star series
to the parallel star), check the connection of the voltage regulator (applicable diagrams).
