Appendix A of this manual shows a complete list of components of the wire feed mechanism of the MEF 44N
wire feeder.
Install the comand cables, power cable, shielding gas hose, welding gun and wire.
6) OPERATION
1)Set the ON/OFF switch of the power source in ON.
2)With the welding gun, wire and pressure and feed rollers correctly installed, lift the pressure roller and
pass the free wire tip through the inlet nozzle, intermediate nozzle and the outlet nozzle until it goes
through the gun conduit; place the wire on the roller groove which corresponds to its diameter and then
tighten, not in excess, the pressure roller on the feed rollers by using the pressure arms.
3)Pre-adjust the shielding gas flowaccording to the process to be used.
4)Set the ON/OFF switch of the wire feeder to ON.
5)Select the Remote/Local switch to 'Local' if the controls of voltage and speed and operation of the trigger
are done through the feeder and to 'Remote' if the controls are done through the optional remote control.
6)Adjust the wire speed to a relatively lowvalue and press the manual wire speed to bring the free wire tip up
to the output through the contact tip of thewelding gun.
7)Select the 2/4 stroke through the 2T/4T switch.
8)Adjust the time value of burnback through the burnback potentiometer to approximately 1/3 of the range.
9)Adjust the output source voltage to an estimate adequate value for the application.
10)Open the arc and adjust the output source voltage, the wire speed, the burnback time and the shielding
gas flowto the necessary values according to thework.
7) MAINTENANCE
7.1) Recomendations
The wire feeder requires little maintenance in normal environment and opperation conditions. It is sufficient
to blowit dry clean using dry compressed air free from oil once a month.
After cleaning the equipment with blow dry air, check that the electric connections and components are
properly fixed. Check for possible faults in the wire isolations or electric cables, including the welding cable
and any others and if any of them is faulty substitute it.
When working with damaged wires or cable or with worn out isolation, the non-isolated parts, can become
in contact with another part of an earth connected object. The electric arc which results from this contact can
hurt the eyes if not protected and cause a fire. The body contact of a part with another conductor without
isolation can cause a violent electric hazard, burns and even death.
N.B.: Cleaning and preventive maintenance should be intensified when
operating in environment contaminated by dust, soot or any other poluent
which can cause damage or harmto the performance.
