1. General
These instructions, along with the general con-
ditions related to the pump, contain additional
information regarding particular requirements for
products in order to guarantee conforming use
in potentially explosive areas in accordance with
directive 2014/34/EU.
1.1 Applications
The Nexis ATEX pumps can be used in gaseous
atmospheres that require a product confor-
ming to group II, category 2G (use in zone 1 and
zone 2), gas category IIB for a temperature class
of T4.
The maximum temperature of the fluid must not
exceed 90 °C.
2. Safety
These instructions contain additional informa-
tion which must be observed when installing and
starting the explosion-proof device. For this rea-
son, these operating instructions must, without
fail, be read by the service technician and the
responsible operator before installation and
commissioning. The general instructions of this
section and also the specific instructions men-
tioned in the following points must be observed.
It is also essential to observe the general infor-
mation in the operating instructions.
2.1 Instruction symbols in the installation
instructions
Instruction symbols are similar to the pump
installation and operating instructions.
2.2 Staff training
The installation, operating and maintenance per-
sonnel must have the appropriate qualifications
for this work.
2.3 Danger in the event of non-observance of the
safety instructions
Non-observance of the safety instructions can
result in risk of injury to persons and damage
the pump or installation. It may also result in a
suspension of the warranty.
To be more precise, the dangers incurred can be
as follows:
• Failure of some major pump functions or of
installation related to the risk of explosion.
2.4 Safety instructions for the operator
The operator is in charge of the planning, instal-
lation and operating of the device in compliance
with the provisions in force. National statutory
provisions are to be complied with. In collabora-
tion with the competent authorities, the opera-
tor shall mark the potentially explosive areas and
use the adequate materials. All information is
included in the document related to explo-
sion-proof protection.

2.5 Safety advice for inspection and maintenance
works
The operator must ensure that all inspection and
installation work is carried out by authorised and
qualified personnel, who are sufficiently infor-
med from their own detailed study of the ope-
rating instructions. Devices must not be opened
in potentially explosive areas. All repair works
have to be performed by the factory service
department or departments authorised by the
manufacturer.
In potentially explosive areas, the plastic parts
must not be rubbed with a piece of rag or any
similar material because of the risk of electro-
static charging.
When carrying out maintenance and repair
works, switch off the pump and ensure that the
installation does not restart unexpectedly.
All maintenance work must be carried out wea-
ring suitable protective clothing (protective
gloves) in order to prevent the risk of infection.
For safety reasons, maintenance work must only
be carried out in the presence of another person
and never in potentially explosive areas.
2.6 Unauthorised modification and manufacture of
spare parts
Alterations to the pump or installation may only
be carried out with the manufacturer's consent.
The use of original spare parts and accessories
authorised by the manufacturer will ensure
safety.
The use of any other parts may invalidate claims
invoking the liability of the manufacturer for any
consequences.
3. Operation in potentially explosive areas
Make sure that the temperature class of the
material (see data mentioned on the rating plate)
is appropriate for the operating space.
The water temperature must not exceed 90 °C
and the ambient temperature must be kept bet-
ween -15 °C and +40 °C.
Do not cover the pump in order to allow good
motor ventilation and try to limit the amount of
dust.
Always respect the maintenance and repair
recommendations for the motor and the pump.
Respect the installation and commissioning in-
structions (filling, flushing out...) in order to eli-
minate any risk of dry running and operation at
zero delivery rate.
The delivery rate controller supplied with the
ATEX pump controls the presence of water in the
upper part of the pump. The electrical connec-
tion must allow the motor to be switched off in
case of a lack of water.
